Chapter 40 - You’re Really Are a Talent
Crazy.
Meng Xu had gone crazy.
In the eyes of the other survivors, Meng Xu was a complete madman.
Everyone heard the zombie’s roars coming from inside the changing room.
As a result, they scattered in all directions, fleeing to various corners of the second floor.
Then they heard Meng Xu’s voice saying something about a ‘50,000 yuan employment offer.’
This left the survivors even more perplexed, exchanging bewildered glances as they had no idea what was happening, feeling an overwhelming sense of absurdity and disbelief.
Ultimately, they all came to the same conclusion.
Meng Xu was a lunatic.
It’s the apocalypse, and he’s still thinking about being a boss?
Sigh, it looks like he’s another poor soul driven mad by work.
But regardless, they decided to run.
After all, if Li Xiang, who was so formidable, had turned into a zombie and become even more dangerous…
And if Meng Xu, who was even stronger than Li Xiang, turned into a zombie… Oh boy, wouldn’t this place become the ‘Giant City Ruins’?
Kong Weizhen was fraught with anxiety and complex emotions.
He had no idea what had happened and, more so, why a zombie had suddenly appeared—and it was Li Xiang!
Could Li Xiang have always been a zombie?
Or maybe there were always zombies on the second floor?!
Just the thought made Kong Weizhen feel terrified!
“Everyone, stay calm.”
Suddenly, a strong and confident voice echoed from the changing room.
The survivors, who had been on the verge of fleeing, froze in their tracks.
They all looked towards the changing room, eagerly anticipating the sight of Meng Xu fighting off the zombie.
After all, if they could avoid it, they didn’t want to abandon this safe place.
Soon enough, Meng Xu kicked open the already shaky door.
The two girls who had been playing a ‘game’ with Li Xiang stumbled out, supporting each other and trembling with fear. They collapsed to the ground in tears as soon as they exited.
The crying annoyed Meng Xu. Leaning against the doorframe, blocking the entrance, he shouted, “Someone get me a rope, something sturdy!”
Hearing his command, the survivors exchanged confused glances but quickly scattered. In no time, a climbing rope was tossed over.
Conveniently, there was a store on the second floor of the department store that sold climbing gear.
Satisfied with the rope’s strength after testing it, Meng Xu nodded. He then went over and securely tied the rope around Li Xiang, ensuring it was tight and secure.
Meng Xu tied it very tightly, and while Li Xiang seemed restless and resistant, even showing signs of wanting to retaliate, an invisible force always suppressed him whenever he tried to fight back, preventing any attacks on Meng Xu.
Affection at -100, combined with the employment effect.
Meng Xu was in high spirits.
Once Li Xiang was fully bound, Meng Xu tugged the rope and confidently walked out of the changing room.
With this new acquisition, he could leave and continue his tasks.
As for the people outside…
Meng Xu thought for a moment and decided not to bother with them for now.
After all, employing these people would be expensive.
Meng Xu didn’t have enough funds to hire them, and the pressure was immense.
Moreover, Meng Xu had procedures to handle; how could he possibly take them along?
Besides, without Meng Xu, they seemed to be doing fine. With Li Xiang dead, the department store’s supplies were plentiful enough to sustain them.
Content with this thought, Meng Xu nodded to himself and dragged Li Xiang out.
The moment Meng Xu appeared with Li Xiang in tow, the entire second floor of the department store went into shock.
Li Xiang, with his grayish-white eyes, bleeding body, emitting guttural growls, his face disfigured, and teeth exposed, exuding a terrifying aura, was being effortlessly led out by Meng Xu.
When Li Xiang saw the living humans, he felt a faint hunger, but he was tightly restrained by his ‘boss,’ his teeth chattering with the urge to devour them.
What’s going on?
This…
Kong Weizhen’s mind went blank, his mouth agape, utterly unable to believe what he was seeing.
A zombie… a zombie led out by Meng Xu like a dog?
Honestly, this scene left Kong Weizhen so stunned he couldn’t even speak.
The other survivors were equally speechless, their shock indescribable.
“Is everyone busy”
Meng Xu yawned and greeted them, “Li Xiang and I had a discussion earlier. He’s fully acknowledged his mistakes, and I generously forgave him. So now, I am employing him as a senior security consultant at my company with a monthly salary of 50,000 yuan.”
With that, Meng Xu tugged the rope and instructed Li Xiang.
“Go, say hello to them.”
“Roar!”
Feeling the tug, the zombie roared, blood dripping from his contorted face, making him look even more menacing.
Seeing this, the surrounding survivors shuddered in fear. Some were so terrified by the roar that their legs gave out, and they collapsed to the ground, unable to move.
Skill: Intimidate.
“Hmm?”
Meng Xu frowned, visibly annoyed, and yanked the rope back, “What’s the matter?! How can you be so rude?! I told you to greet them, what are you doing? If this happens again, I’ll dock your pay!”
Meng Xu was enranged. How could his employee behave like this?
What if people got the impression that Peace and Order employees were all uncouth zombies? That would be damaging to the company’s image!
Chairman Meng refused to let anything tarnish the company’s reputation!
Seeing Meng Xu’s demeanor, Kong Weizhen couldn’t help but swallow hard, his voice trembling as he asked, “Who… who exactly are you…?”
Too terrifying!
“Me?”
Meng Xu straightened his chest, confidently declaring, “I am the chairman of Peace and Order, as well as a simple snack vendor wandering around Heqing City.”
With that, Meng Xu continued, “I have to go several places to handle some paperwork. You all stay here. If you need anything… never mind, my company is too small. Just stay here.”
Meng Xu didn’t want to play caretaker.
Better to leave it be.
It was already the fourth day; the authorities should have had enough time to organize a rescue operation by now.
Besides, he was quite displeased with their earlier behavior. On this trip, he had only killed two people; Chairman Meng considered it an act of mercy.
“What kind of paperwork are you handling?”
Kong Weizhen, trying to calm his inner turmoil, cautiously questioned Meng Xu.
He had a vague inkling about something.
Amidst his fear, Kong Weizhen felt a strange hint of excitement.
If Meng Xu were to leave, wouldn’t this place then be under his control?!
“It’s nothing much, just paperwork for setting up a company,” Meng Xu remarked casually, “I’ve already been to the industrial and commercial bureau and the bank, next I have to visit… damn, so many departments.”
Thinking about all the departments, Meng Xu felt a headache coming on.
Many of these departments weren’t located together but spread far apart.
Meng Xu wondered what Heqing City planners were thinking, placing government offices so far from each other.
Kong Weizhen fell silent upon hearing Meng Xu’s words.
It’s the apocalypse, and you’re still going through with company paperwork?
Though he struggled to understand, looking at the zombie Li Xiang behind Meng Xu, who seemed to be drooling at the sight of him, Kong Weizhen shuddered. Fear made him very rational, prompting him to quickly say, “If that’s the case, you should go to the Citizen Service Center’s integrated office hall… all the departments have service windows there.”
Meng Xu: !!!
Meng Xu was astonished, not expecting such a solution. He immediately nodded in satisfaction and praised, “You’re a genius! Alright, I appoint you as the sole designated partner of the Peace and Order Group and promote you to General Manager of our subsidiary. You can pick your company name!”
So there’s a Citizen Service Center.
How come I never knew about this place before?
This makes things much easier!
