Monarch of Calamity: Nurturer of Disasters

Chapter 6: Meditating Under The Illumination Of The Night.

No, in fact, Naib could even see faint traces of muscles appearing around his body.

Although they looked strange, akin to a person trying to gain muscles yet barely eating sustenance to gain body mass, their appearance still held a novel feeling for him.

"I could tell that my strength increased by a minute amount.

"Huff, I really needed to unveil all of this system usage as soon as possible so I can maximize their usefulness."

Despite his mind being occupied by something else, Naib's body already began to move.

Slash!

Cutting a small section of flesh from the green snake, ensuring his sustenance for today, Naib, amidst his regretful gaze toward the humongous corpse of the snake — regretting that he couldn't take them all for himself — immediately rushed toward the depths of the forest, wanting to withdraw from the scene as much as possible.

As for the boar, since it was bitten by the snake on the buttocks earlier, Naib smartly decided not to bother with its flesh, hence abandoning the thought of cutting its parts for sustenance.

Roar!

Sure enough, not even two minutes passed by when he left; numbers of beasts, clearly attracted to the sound that the battle generated earlier and the scent of blood that diffused through the atmosphere, began to appear one by one.

Their eyes, clearly filled with hunger and malicious intent, dived toward the corpses of the beasts, plunging the place into another chaotic ambiance filled with sinful desire.

***

Time passed by, and without even noticing it, Naib had already been transmigrated to this place for half a day.

Looking above the firmament, where the sun could be seen starting to descend from the sky, bathing the heavens in cold twilight.

Naib's face couldn't help but become tainted by gloom, understanding that he needed to find a place to hide before darkness completely shrouded this endless land.

In this forest, other than creating sounds, darkness could also be considered similarly dangerous since most beasts hunt at night. Moreover, without having the ability to see through darkness, venturing outside in those hours can be considered a death wish; hence, the predecessor often hides earlier before going to sleep.

"D*mnit, my luck was really too low to transmigrate into this body..."

As a person who never liked venturing outside, Naib couldn't help but curse inwardly.

It could be said that although he had desires to transmigrate into an unfamiliar world filled with mysticism in the past. Transmigrating into the depths of the forest alone is too much!

How could they even expect a person who lives in a cozy home and is surrounded by people for most of his life to suddenly live in the forest alone, filled with dangerous beasts on top of that?!

Unfortunately, despite Naib's protest, he still ended up hiding in the cramped hole in one of the trees that he sighted in the distance...

"The only good thing in this forest is that there are lots of abandoned nests and burrows to hide in.

"No, in fact, it can't be good at all, considering that the previous occupant of those spots probably fell prey to the other beast, showcasing how dangerous this forest is.'

Naib silently thought while he gnawed the tough snake meat on his hand, carefully grinding it with his teeth for a couple of minutes before forcefully swallowing it.

Although the taste of the uncooked meat is far from satisfactory, leaving only a faint juicy texture and, at the same time, a rusty taste in his mouth that lingers for quite a while, Naib had no choice but to consume it.

Pat-

Soon, after finishing a quarter of the meat, Naib finally stopped when he felt his jaw begin to hurt.

Patting his stomach with mild satisfaction, Naib then fixed his posture, sitting cross-legged despite the discomfort as he began breathing with rhythmic beats, carefully following the knowledge within his mind as he started absorbing the star force lingering around.

Although his spiritual manual was at the lowest grade with no special attributes other than building a solid foundation, causing the speed of absorption to be extremely slow, the star force that this forest contained was much higher than the village within his memory.

At least, the quality and the quantity should be double!

"This predecessor of mine took at least a month just to step into the beast apprentice realm, marking my talent to be above average.

"Although it's not that bad, it's also not that good, barely giving me a slight chance to reach beast master, which was 2 realms above the apprentice realm in this lifetime."

Pausing for a while, focusing on absorbing the star force present around before carefully guiding it toward the depths of his head — within the center of his brain — adding a single drop of crystallized water within the imagined almost half-filled pond, Naib then continued.

"It might take me another month before I could make a breakthrough. I really needed to complete this system quest so I could get that spiritual manual.'

With that lingering thought, Naib then fell into a seemingly endless loop, where his mind was solely focused on absorbing the star force around him, making his meditation speed skyrocket by at least 5%!

...

Amidst the roaring sounds that occasionally resounded from afar and the cry of agony from an unknown abomination, the crescent moon hanging above the sky finally descended from the horizon, welcoming another morning.

The warm, yellowish light illuminated the sky, dispelling the darkness above and reducing the mist hovering within the forest, unfolding the greenery that goes beyond one's vision, creating scenic scenery in the process.

Rustle~

Rustle-

Within the cramped hole above the thick tree, the first ray of sunlight hit Naib's physique, unfolding his thin, sickly figure within as his eyelids couldn't help but irritably twitch from the sudden appearance of the burning light that reflected in his eyes.

"Dammit! It's already morning; I still haven't slept yet. Eh, wait, th-this... Although I hadn't slept yet, my mind was perfectly fine and bizarrely clear; there's not even a trace of mental fatigue at all!"
