Monarch of Calamity: Nurturer of Disasters

Chapter 5: Fate Points

With that thought on his mind and saliva flowing from the corner of his lips, Naib, already starting to get consumed by his hunger, decisively raised the rusty sword in his hand.

Slash!

With force, he then swung the rusty sword toward the necks of the two beasts — embedding deep within — creating a long vertical line that revealed the flesh within, followed by the unceasing gushing of their sticky blood that assured their deaths.

"Huff~ awakened beasts' flesh is kinda tough; fortunately, they were still at the mortal realm, or else, this rusty sword of mine would be destroyed first before I could leave a scratch on their surface."

Although Naib initially wanted to attack their head, he knew that it would be quite difficult to pierce their skull with his current strength, hence, he targeted their soft spot instead.

Ding!

[ Killing two Mid-Mortal realm beasts.

+4 Fate Points

(Fate Points can be considered and used as a system currency, allowing you to buy items, knowledge, proficiency, and even use some features present within the system.) ]

"This... Fate points?'

Surprisingly, after killing the two beasts, a new notification suddenly popped up in front of his vision, causing his movement to halt a bit before he hurriedly opened his character panel.

Sure enough, below his lackluster character panel, the additional fate points mysteriously appeared; however, unfortunately, without finishing the first quest of the system, Naib was unable to ascertain their exact usefulness.

Nevertheless, since its description already contains vague information then earning them wouldn't be bad.

"I need to act quickly before the beast's blood attracts other beasts."

Momentarily putting the unnecessary thought behind the back of his mind, Naib then immediately approached the boar corpse before striking its head with force, trying to pry it open to see if it contained the congealed stone that he was looking for.

Cling-

However, surprisingly, after swinging the sword in his hand, the skull of the boar remained intact, only creating a shallow cut that revealed its white skull and faint marks within!

"As expected...'

Cling-

Not giving up, Naib, through his gritted teeth, again swung his sword; however, this time, instead of using brute force, he chose to utilize the only offensive skill he knew, which is the Basic Sword Style with basic mastery!

Although its offensive capabilities were not satisfactory and only nearing the basic strength of a normal beast within the early stage of the mortal realm, the basic sword style could already help a person to utilize the star power hidden within them; hence, causing their offensive ability to skyrocket!

At least, much stronger than an average adult could muster!

Clang!

Sure enough, this time, after expending 5% of his star force, the skull of the boar finally cracked a little, faintly revealing the white sticky fluid behind that began flowing outside.

Seeing that his attack was somewhat effective, Naib, with a faint excitement coursing through his being, again used the basic sword style.

Slash!

Crack~

With a sharp glow enveloping the rusty sword in his hand, Naib then continuously struck the same location where he had attacked earlier, caving the boar's head and enlarging the cracks in the process.

...

Cra-Crack!

Soon, with a final slash, the skull of the boar finally parted, revealing the slimy pinkish texture beyond that began oozing outside, corrupting the ground with their musty scent.

However, much to his disappointment, after looking for a while, Naib hasn't found what he was looking for, making him shake his head amidst his fatigue and hunger.

Despite that, still retaining a little bit of hope, he then shifted his gaze toward the snake opposite the boar corpse.

Then, without further ado, he repeated what he had just done on the boar, making the head of the snake crack open after slashing it a couple of times.

"This..."

In an instant, after cracking the head of the snake with his basic sword mastery, Naib then suddenly halted, gazing mindlessly toward the mushy brain of the snake in front of him.

Although there are no congealed stones within the brain of the snake, the thing that caught his attention was the sudden notification that popped up in front of him after using 50% of his star force.

Making him realize one of the advantages of having a system.

[ Basic Sword Style - Basic Mastery proficiency increases by 10% upon using it to decapitate a beast non-stop. ]

[ Basic Sword Style - Basic Mastery (11%) (Mortal) ]

At the same time, after receiving the notification, a warm, pure energy then began coursing through his head — entering through his mind and giving him a faint sensation of understanding as if he had been swinging the basic sword style hundreds of times — ingraining deep within, slowly but surely, making him understand the skill much better.

Following that, an unprecedented hunger took over his body, making his already malnourished physique slim down at a visible speed, slowly showing the contour of his bones hidden beneath his flesh in the process.

"D*mnit! Another problem arises."

Realizing that the energy didn't come from out of nowhere, instead using his flesh and reserve energy as fuel to integrate the knowledge in his mind, Naib can't help but curse inwardly.

Understanding that this shouldn't go on or else it might endanger his life, Naib, despite the sensation of repulsion, immediately squatted down before grabbing a handful of the liquified brain of the snake in front of him before stuffing it into his mouth, never caring about its strange taste before gulping it hurriedly.

In an instant, upon entering his stomach, the liquified brain immediately turned into nutrients that were equally distributed through his body, slowing down the thinning of his physique and giving him a brief respite.

However, despite that, knowing that the changes within his body were still going on, Naib continued consuming the white substance in front of him, finishing it off in a matter of minutes before shifting to the brain of the boar nearby.

Huff~

Finally...

Soon, upon consuming the last drop of substance within the boar's skull, Naib's hunger finally ceased, making him sigh in relief as he inspected his body.

Fortunately, other than slimming down for a little bit, his body was perfectly fine.
