Chapter 10: A Glitch in the Snow

The wind howled through the broken metal towers, like a ghost trying to remember its name.

I pulled my coat tighter, feeling the chill seep through even the reinforced fabric. White walked a few steps ahead, his bare feet leaving no prints in the snow. He never complained about the cold. He never seemed cold at all.

"Do you ever feel it?" I asked him.

He stopped, turning slightly. His white hair danced in the wind.

"Feel what?"

"The silence. Like… the world is waiting for something."

White tilted his head. His eyes—two fractured shards of silver—searched mine.

"It's not waiting," he said. "It's listening."

I didn't ask what that meant. I knew better. White always said strange things, but somehow, they always felt… right. Like he wasn't guessing—just remembering something I hadn't lived yet.

We reached the old station—half buried in snow, its sign unreadable under frost and rust. I scanned the area with the fragment scanner, but nothing dangerous popped up. Just static.

"Still want to go in?" I asked.

White nodded. "There's something here. A part of me."

---

Inside, the world was silent—completely. Not just quiet, but silent in a way that pressed against your skull. Like sound had been erased.

We walked through the wreckage, through what looked like an ancient lab, now torn apart by time and maybe something worse.

On a cracked console, I saw it:

USER ID: WHITE_E-07N7 - Not Recognized

Error: Host Body Not Synced. Retrying...

Retry Failed.

White stepped back, eyes wide. For the first time, he looked afraid.

"That's… me?" he whispered.

I nodded slowly. "I think it was."

He looked down at his hands, flexing them like they didn't belong to him.

"Then… who am I now?"

---

I didn't have the answer. But in that frozen place, with echoes of a past we didn't understand, I knew one thing:

This world was broken in more ways than one.

And White…

White was not just some child I found.

He was a glitch—a beautiful, dangerous, lost piece of something old.

And someday, it would come looking for him.
