Marvel: The Spider-Grind

Chapter 9: Chapter 8: Progress

Peter woke up early, feeling energized and focused. His mind was already racing through the details of the webshooters he had been designing in his head. While creating the blueprint was relatively easy, given his rapidly growing engineering knowledge, the real challenge lay in perfecting the web fluid. He wanted it to be strong yet biodegradable, durable yet versatile.

Sitting at his desk with papers and his laptop spread out, Peter started sketching the final blueprint. The design was compact and sophisticated. The advanced pumping system he envisioned could control the flow, viscosity, and pressure of the web fluid, ensuring maximum efficiency.

"Okay," Peter muttered to himself, "the shooter is simple enough. But the fluid… that's the real deal."

He pulled up references from online journals and textbooks. The fluid needed the right combination of polymers, additives, and solvents. He jotted down the ingredients:

•Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF): For flexibility and durability.

•Polylactic acid (PLA): A biodegradable component to ensure the web dissolves after a few hours.

•Toluene: To adjust viscosity and keep the polymers dissolved.

•Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO): To help control the pressure and flow properties.

•Ethanol: As a solvent to thin the mixture.

He adjusted the proportions repeatedly, testing the chemical stability using an online molecular simulator. His adaptability cheat kicked in, allowing him to process and perfect the formula at a speed that would make seasoned chemists jealous. Hours flew by, and by the time he glanced at the clock, it was already Saturday morning.

"Great," Peter thought, stretching his arms. "I've got the formula. Now I just need to gather the materials."

After a quick breakfast with Aunt May, Peter rushed to Oscorp.

At Oscorp, Peter prepared the lab just as Dr. Connors had instructed. He carefully set up the equipment, wiped down every surface, and organized the tools. As he worked, he observed Dr. Connors pacing around the lab, muttering to himself while scribbling notes.

Peter saw this as an opportunity to build rapport. "Dr. Connors," Peter started, his tone polite but confident, "I've been reading up on your papers about limb regeneration using reptilian DNA. It's fascinating how the extracellular matrix plays a role in promoting tissue growth."

Connors stopped mid-step, looking at Peter with a raised eyebrow. "You've read my papers?"

"Yes, sir. I found them very insightful. But I was wondering, have you considered the potential risks of cross-species contamination? The DNA splicing process might trigger unintended mutations."

Connors tilted his head, clearly intrigued. "That's… a very valid concern. Most people overlook that."

Peter smiled. "I just think it's important to consider all angles. Your work is groundbreaking, and I'd love to learn more about it."

For the first time, Connors smiled, albeit faintly. "You're a sharp kid, Parker. Keep it up."

Peter felt a sense of accomplishment. Step one of earning Connors' trust was complete.

With no immediate tasks, Connors told Peter to take a break but reminded him to return later to clean up the lab. Peter took the opportunity to call Harry.

"Hey, Harry. What's the plan for today?"

"Party at Sean's place. You in?"

"Yeah, sounds good. I'll meet you there," Peter replied, already grabbing his jacket.

The party was lively, with music blasting and people mingling. Peter recognized several classmates and even a few people from other schools. As he scanned the room, a girl with white platinum hair and piercing blue eyes caught his attention.

"Felicia Hardy," Peter thought, instantly recognizing her from the comics. She was leaning against a wall, sipping a drink, and radiating an aura of mystery.

Taking a deep breath, Peter decided to approach her. "Hey, I'm Peter," he said casually, offering a friendly smile.

Felicia glanced at him, her lips curling into a sly smile. "Felicia. You're Harry's friend, right?"

"That's me," Peter replied. "I guess I should've guessed your name. You kind of stand out in a crowd."

Felicia chuckled. "And you don't? You've got this... nerdy but confident vibe going on. It's intriguing."

Peter smirked. "I'll take that as a compliment."

As they talked, Peter used his adaptability to adjust to her playful and enigmatic demeanor. He mirrored her wit, keeping the conversation engaging and lighthearted.

"So, what's your story, Felicia? You don't seem like the kind of person who shows up at random parties."

Felicia leaned closer, her voice dropping to a teasing whisper. "Maybe I just like to keep people guessing."

Peter grinned. "Well, I'll keep guessing, then."

As much as Peter enjoyed the conversation, he kept track of the time. He had to get back to Oscorp soon.

"It was great talking to you," Peter said, stepping back. "But I've got to run."

Felicia raised an eyebrow. "Leaving so soon? You're an interesting guy, Peter Parker. Don't disappear too fast."

Peter chuckled. "Don't worry. I'll keep you guessing, too."

Back at Oscorp, Peter returned to the lab to clean up. As he worked, he discreetly collected some of the chemicals and equipment he needed for the web fluid. He made sure to take small amounts, careful not to arouse suspicion.

Once his tasks were complete, he headed home. On the way, he stopped by a store to buy a few more materials for the webshooters.

At home, Peter found Aunt May watching the news. The headline caught his attention: "Captain America Resurfaces After Decades!"

Peter's heart raced. 'It's starting,' he thought. 'Steve Rogers… The Avengers Initiative can't be far behind.'

"Peter, come sit with me," Aunt May said. "Isn't it amazing? Captain America is alive after all these years."

"It really is," Peter replied, sitting beside her.

After a while, Peter excused himself and headed to the basement. He set up his workspace and began assembling the webshooters. His rapid adaptability made the process seamless. By the time he finished, the devices were sleek and fully functional.

Peter held them up, admiring his work. "Not bad for a day's effort," he muttered.

Now, he just needed to test them. But that could wait until tomorrow. For now, he decided to meditate, turning the gears of rapid adaptability to master his mind. It won't be long before he faces telepaths, mutants or sorcerers...
