Chapter 260: That Is Your Loss, Not Mine.
"No, there's no other reason. I just wanted to make you comfortable. Nothing more." Jane tried to hide the sudden nervousness in her voice, but the slight tremble betrayed her. "Is there anything else I can do for you, si... I mean, Lucifer?"
Lucifer chuckled at her reaction but decided to humor her. "There's nothing in particular. Not for now, at least. After I finish taking a quick shower, I'll head back to my home. But you should prepare for some possible new faces soon in the manor, Jane. I am planning for my girls to stay here from now on. It's best if everything is ready to welcome them."
"Girls? You mean your lovers?!" A confused expression flashed across Jane's face at Lucifer's remark.
The number of questions in her mind grew faster than she could ask them. It was not unusual for a wealthy man to keep a few women on the side, but it was uncommon for them to live in the same place together, under the same roof. Jane couldn't imagine the chaos it would bring. Having two women share the same man was a recipe for disaster. How could having more work in this case?
"Yes, that's correct," Lucifer confirmed her assumption and continued. "You'll get to meet them all soon, so I want to make sure you and the rest of the staff are ready to accommodate them to their liking, okay? Every place needs to be perfect. No errors, no mistakes."
"Yes, of course. Everything will be perfect," Jane replied, keeping her voice even. The idea of dealing with so many high-maintenance women concerned her, but she couldn't refuse the order from her boss. "I'll ensure all their needs will be met as you desire. Anything else to add, sir... I mean, Lucifer?"
"No. That's all. Unless... there is something more personal you would like to discuss with me?" Lucifer teased, with a mischievous grin on his face.
Jane quickly became defensive and agitated when she saw his amused gaze on her. "Of course not! Why would I do that? My only interest is my job and nothing more, no matter what you may be thinking!"
Continue your adventure with empire
Lucifer laughed at her denial, enjoying the sudden outburst of her true emotions and reaction. It was apparent Jane was hiding her interest in him, just like any other girl, and that meant he could continue to tease her even further about it until she finally broke down and admitted her feelings.
"So defensive. I guess you're a natural," Lucifer quipped, running a hand through his hair and eyeing her with curiosity. "Or are you perhaps trying to show how good you are at playing hard-to-get? Regardless, it's clear to me you're already interested in me, and pretending otherwise won't change a thing."
Jane was speechless for a moment and just kept staring at him in silence. Then she let out a frustrated sigh, and her lips pressed into a thin line as she tried hard not to snap back at him. "You're right... I am interested in you, but that doesn't mean I'll act upon it. Besides, I know very well that someone like you will never settle for just one woman, and I don't want to become a part of that."
Lucifer smiled again and stepped closer to her. She was truly an interesting woman who seemed determined to avoid getting involved with him. But he couldn't help admiring her beauty and grace.
"That's a shame. We could have been great together." Lucifer placed his hand on Jane's face and caressed her cheek softly as he gazed into her eyes. "I would have made you feel things no one else has ever made you feel. But I guess you'll never experience it now. That is your loss, not mine. Goodnight, Jane."
With those words, Lucifer turned around and walked back inside the manor. As he strolled across the hallways, his mind kept thinking about Vivian and Jane. Both were quite different but still very attractive women that he wanted.
He was confident that sooner or later he'd manage to conquer both of them, despite their reluctance to be his.
Jane remained standing there in the darkness of the rooftop, still feeling the warmth of his hand on her skin and remembering the intensity of his gaze as he stared into her eyes.
She was afraid of what might happen if she allowed herself to give in to her desires and admit how much she wanted Lucifer. So she shook her head to clear it from such thoughts and headed back inside as well.
"He is my boss, nothing more," Jane muttered under her breath, trying to convince herself to stop thinking about him. "I need to focus on my job. Everything will be fine as long as I stick to that."
Meanwhile, Lucifer headed for the bathroom of his bedroom. He took a quick shower to wash off the sweat from his body and the lingering scent of sex with Vivian. Once he finished, he got dressed and went downstairs to the main entrance of the manor, where he had parked his car earlier.
It wasn't long before he arrived home and entered his house.
When Lucifer reached the second floor, he heard some voices coming from one of the bedrooms and noticed that the door was slightly open, revealing a dim light inside.
He approached the room and pushed it open to see who was inside. It was Layla, his sister. She sat at her desk, working on her laptop, while Kiera lay sprawled across her bed, scrolling through something on her phone. They both looked up when he stepped in, then quickly resumed what they were doing as if he wasn't even there.
This lack of interest surprised him. Both sisters always welcomed him when he arrived home from work or a night out, asking him questions about his day or how things went without hesitation. Now neither of them seemed to care that much about his presence.
