Chapter 209: Angels, Gods, and the Sea of Chaos
The disappearance of Damon and his divine territory did not immediately attract his father's attention. After all, disappearance didn't mean death. Only severe injury or a cry for help would trigger his father's intervention. Even a Sequence 0 being couldn't monitor their child's condition every moment.
However, the Mysterious Study could isolate everything. Even if Damon were to perish, no signal would escape. The automated distress signals triggered by severe injuries were entirely blocked.
When Damon realized he couldn't break through the endless shadow space and failed to send a plea for help, a chill of despair ran down his spine. Without hesitation, he activated his final trump card.
He retrieved an ancient Historical Monument, utilizing the Sequence 1 Historical Archaeologist skill he had inherited from his father.
Historical Monument — A skill that summons great historical beings who have already fallen. Though powerful, those summoned through this method possess independent will and cannot be easily controlled.
At this moment, Damon didn't care about control. He only wanted the summoned being to shatter the cyclical world around him and create an opening to call his father.
As the Historical Monument activated, the ancient stone tablet in Damon's hands weathered into dust. From within the drifting fragments, a vague figure began to materialize.
A ten-winged Angel God emerged. A diamond-shaped divine sigil glowed between his brows, a gleaming spear in his left hand, and an unyielding shield in his right. In his prime, he was a Sequence 0 Angel God, an existence worthy of reverence across realms.
But Damon couldn't summon a full Sequence 0 Angel God—only a Sequence 4 projection materialized. Yet even at this level, the Angel God still wielded mythological skills from Sequence 1 and even fragments of Sequence 0 power.
The moment the Angel God began to descend, Rosen, lurking in the shadows, felt an overwhelming sense of dread. Without hesitation, he activated the Ecological Planetarium and drained 10 billion high-quality spiritual crystals in an instant.
A law of Light and Darkness Balance was established in the Void Shadow World. Under this miraculous law, every shadow gained equal power to its original form.
Next, Rosen activated the Shadow Clone feature of the Void Shadow Realm and created a Shadow Angel—an exact replica of the Angel God in both power and abilities.
The Angel God fully descended, his divine eyes opening with an intense glow. Upon seeing the Shadow Angel before him, an instinctive fury ignited within him—this shadow was an affront to his divine presence. But upon closer inspection, he realized that this copy was exactly like him.
Understanding the situation, the Angel God made a silent agreement with the Shadow Angel. Rosen, controlling the Shadow Angel, gave a slight nod. Moments later, Rosen manipulated the Void Shadow Realm and transferred the Angel God to another subspace, isolating him from Damon.
Left behind, Damon watched in horror as his summoned savior departed. In place of the Angel God, the Shadow Angel now turned its gaze toward him.
Panicked, Damon tried to sever the historical summoning, but it was too late. The Shadow Angel used the Sequence 0 Mythological Skill — Holy Faith, instantly corrupting Damon's Sequence Ancient Tree and forcibly converting him into a believer.
With his will shattered, Damon fell to his knees, prostrating himself before the Shadow Angel.
Only then did Rosen exhale in relief. He carefully withdrew from the Mysterious Study, carrying the entire Void Shadow Realm with him.
Once outside, Rosen deactivated the isolation and released the Angel God back into the main world.
The Angel God sensed the familiar laws of the world and immediately began a complex Reincarnation Ritual.
Of course, true resurrection was impossible—the Angel God had perished at the hands of a true deity in ancient history. Instead, this ritual preserved his angelic heritage, randomly passing it on to an angelic descendant somewhere in the world.
In return, this descendant would bear the duty of avenging him—a slim hope, but the last legacy the Angel God could leave behind.
As the ritual concluded, the Angel God's form faded until only a faint shadow remained. His glowing eyes turned toward the vibrant Divine Wood City, a trace of melancholy lingering in his expression.
He remembered his once-glorious Angel Kingdom, now reduced to nothing but memories.
Moments later, the Angel God vanished entirely.
Watching this unfold, Rosen felt an unfamiliar ache in his chest. Once a being of immeasurable power, a Sequence 0, had been reduced to shadows and scattered memories.
He was lucky enough to be summoned and materialized by the historical archaeologist, but after realizing that he couldn't be taken down, he actually put aside his pride as a god, bowed to him—a mere Sequence 5—and asked him for help to return to reality. He absolutely did not want to end up like the Angel God.
Rosen activated the Void Phase and left Divine Wood City and the Holy Continent without any reluctance.
He couldn't stay in this place any longer. He had to keep a low profile until he found a backer, or simply changed his identity. Otherwise, if a Sequence 4 Angel God had forced him to reveal his trump card, facing a Sequence 0 God was simply unthinkable.
It seems that the smooth sailing he had been enjoying recently had made him somewhat ignorant of his own limitations.
When I reach Sequence 2, it won't be too late to openly provoke a Sequence 0.
Just a few days after Rosen left the Holy Continent, a huge bounty for him appeared in the Dark World.
Over the past few days, he had entered the Mysterious Study almost every day. There were interferences from the Ecological Planetarium and the Flame of Miracles. Although they couldn't completely block Damon's father's predictions about him, they were enough to give him a warning and leave him sufficient time to enter the Mysterious Study.
Over the next few days, Rosen was predicted more than a dozen times, and more than one person attempted the prediction.
Apparently, Damon's father had sought out different high-sequence individuals skilled in prophecy, but all of them failed in front of the Mysterious Study. Prophecy comes at a cost, regardless of success or failure.
In the absence of any results, even a Sequence 0 God could not afford to endlessly hire people to perform fruitless tasks.
The last resort was to stop the prophecies entirely and put all hopes of catching Rosen on the bounty.
At this time, Rosen had already left the Holy Continent and was watching the sea from within the Mysterious Study.
He sat by the window, sipping juice, with thunder, heavy rain, hurricanes, and tsunamis raging outside.
Ever since leaving the Holy Continent, I've been thinking about where to go next.
The world was vast, far too vast for a single human lifetime to explore.
The place I go must contribute to my growth.
The weather at sea was unpredictable. One moment, there was a hurricane and tsunami; the next, the clouds cleared, and the sea lay calm. At this moment, the ashes on the sea surface had thinned significantly, allowing a rare rainbow to be visible.
Rosen gazed at the rainbow and suddenly thought of a place that was perfect for him.
Where there is light, there is darkness.
The human world wasn't entirely shrouded in order. Some people were born with a love for chaos and destruction, drawn to killing and tearing down order. These people weren't only numerous—they were also powerful.
Even the establishment of the World Government had been facilitated by such individuals.
After order was established, many of these people faced abandonment.
After numerous compromises, the World Government designated a special region in the human world—a place without order, where nobility held no privileges and strength was the sole measure of power.
This region became known as the Chaotic Sea.
Initially, the Chaotic Sea was merely a haven for disorderly individuals.
Later, the World Government began exiling criminals there—criminals whose backgrounds made it inconvenient to execute them directly. Instead, they were sent to the Chaotic Sea to fend for themselves.
This is why the Chaotic Sea is also called the Abyss of Sin.
The Chaotic Sea was easy to enter but nearly impossible to leave. However, Rosen had the Void Phase, allowing him to leave at any time.
He logged into the Deep Web of the Spiritual World and searched for all available information about the Chaotic Sea.
After weighing the pros and cons, he decided to return briefly to the Holy Continent.
Traveling directly to the Chaotic Sea by ship would take decades. The smarter approach was to infiltrate the Imperial Prison and find someone who could teleport him directly there. The journey would then take no more than ten days or two weeks.
The Underground Prison of Divine Wood City was formed from the intertwined roots of the Sacred Tree.
In the damp, dark cells, all prisoners who had mastered supernatural Sequences were entangled by these roots, their spiritual energy continuously drained to nourish the Sacred Tree.
With the cover of the Void Shadow World, Rosen slipped effortlessly into the underground prison.
"This won't work. Not worthy of being sent to the Chaotic Sea..."
"This one won't work either. I can't play the role if I don't look good..."
"This is a girl. Keep looking..."
Rosen scoured the underground prison and finally found a suitable target.
Richard Phoenix, a Sequence 6 Painter, born into a poor hereditary viscount family, was exceptionally skilled at portrait painting. He had secured a position in Duke Dexter's mansion as an art tutor for the Duke's daughter.
However, Richard was not a simple man. Over two years, he patiently sought an opportunity to poison Duke Dexter.
But fate had other plans. Another Duke had unexpectedly visited Duke Dexter's mansion, and Richard was caught red-handed.
He should have been sentenced to death for attempting to poison a noble. However, both Duchess Dexter and the Duke's daughter, who was set to inherit the title, intervened.
The official reason was that death would be too easy for him. It would be better to send him to the Chaotic Sea.
But the real reason was far more scandalous. During his two years in the mansion, Richard seemed to have developed special relationships with these two women.
Rosen stepped into the cell, grabbed Richard, and transferred him to the Void God Prison.
Then, he used his acting skills to imitate Richard, settling comfortably on the soft prison duvet while waiting for the transfer.
It's nice to have someone to pave the way for you. Even in prison, I can relax.
However, no matter how comfortable it was, it was still a prison.
Rosen spent just one day in the cell. After that, he had his Self-Portrait Clone take his place while he hid in the Mysterious Study, continuing his plans to fully enslave Damon.
Although Damon had now completely lost the ability to resist, it was the Shadow Angel who had successfully enslaved him.
Eventually, the Shadow Angel dissipated, and its control over Damon began to fade.
Fortunately, before Damon could wake up, Rosen had already imprisoned him in the Void Prison and subjected him to severe torture.
However, he hadn't yet fully taken control, so Damon's divine territory and treasures remained locked within his domain, inaccessible to Rosen. Among those treasures, the seemingly simple Catapult Miracle Treasure piqued Rosen's interest.
Time passed day by day, and only half a day remained before Richard was to be sent to the Chaotic Sea.
That night, two uninvited guests arrived at the underground prison, one after the other.
Rosen had dispelled his Self-Portrait Clone, not because he intended to serve his time in prison, but because there were certain matters the clone couldn't handle. The young and beautiful Duke's Daughter and the caring Duchess put a perfect end to his prison life with an entire night spent together.
At first, Rosen thought Duke Dexter had died unjustly, but after combing through Richard's detailed memories over the past few days, he realized the Duke deserved his fate.
The Duke of Dexter was the kind of man who would never let go of his title.
As a result, he refused to have children when he was young and found it difficult to father any when he grew older. Worse still, despite being nearly at death's door, he clung to his title while indulging in youthful desires. After falling in love with the married Duchess, he had nearly her entire family killed, leaving only the Duchess and her younger sister alive to serve him.
Perhaps finding it shameful to have no heir, he ensured that the Duchess's sister became an illegitimate daughter.
Richard was bewitched by the sisters and assisted in their plot to poison Duke Dexter, though the plan ultimately failed.
This was why the sisters hadn't abandoned him. Otherwise, silencing him permanently would have been the most logical course of action. As long as Richard was alive, he remained a threat to them.
Rosen couldn't figure out why they had come to visit Richard in the underground prison on his final night, but it wasn't important to him—he wasn't particularly curious.
The next morning, the Duchess sisters rose earlier than Rosen.
They brought him a set of new clothes and even left him a storage ring. Limping slightly, Rosen was escorted from the underground prison to the Chaotic Sea Teleportation Array under the envious gaze of the jailers.
This was a one-way teleportation array and not one with a fixed destination.
Once Rosen and the other prisoners destined for the Chaotic Sea stepped onto the array, dozens of people were teleported away simultaneously.
The teleportation process was grueling, lasting half an hour.
It felt as though he was being tossed around in a washing machine. He dared not resist, fearing that disrupting the teleportation would result in him being shredded by the Void.
When the process finally ended, his feet met nothing but air, and he fell into the sea, carried forward by the relentless current.
Rosen attempted to fly into the air, but his spiritual energy was restrained by the sea itself.
Unable to resist, he was carried forward by the current. At this moment, his Self-Portrait Clone sprang into action.
Ever since facing the threat of a Sequence 0, either Rosen or his Self-Portrait Clone had remained in the Mysterious Study at all times. By anchoring the Mysterious Study to one of them, they ensured a swift escape route—it would take less than nine seconds to open a window and enter the Mysterious Study.
A window appeared in the air next to Rosen, and the Self-Portrait Clone reached out, pulling him inside.
Rosen didn't bother changing his soaked clothes but instead peered out the window.
He hadn't been able to find detailed information about the Chaotic Sea on the Deep Web of the Spiritual World.
His only option was to explore and deduce the situation himself.
Rosen opened his Void Painting Album, and from one of the paintings, an eagle emerged, flying out the window and plunging into the sea. However, it was quickly swept away by the current, unable to resist.
Clearly, anything with spirituality was useless here.
Rosen immediately traveled to the Mechanical City of the Dark Continent and asked Amy to create a Mechanical Fish devoid of any spiritual energy.
The fish was deployed into the sea and carried by the current. Hours later, the transmitted images revealed a horrifying sight:
A massive hole in the middle of the ocean, with seawater cascading down its edges like a gigantic waterfall.
If Rosen hadn't entered the Mysterious Study in time, he would have been swept into that abyss.
Realizing the truth, Rosen understood—there was a hidden world beneath that hole.
Without hesitation, he leapt from the window and swam furiously through the sea, trying to catch up with the time he had lost.
Reaching the edge of the massive hole, Rosen saw people being swept in from all directions, their faces filled with terror.
Only those who had lost their spirituality could truly comprehend the terror of nature.
Rosen calmly allowed himself to drift downward, falling into the gaping chasm, a colossal hole spanning at least a thousand miles in diameter.
As he plummeted, Rosen's Self-Portrait Clone in the Mysterious Study continued observing through the God Hunter's Demon Eye.
It soon became apparent that the hole wasn't naturally formed.
Steam erupted continuously from beneath the sea, blocking the water's descent but somehow not heating it.
Peering downward, all Rosen could see was darkness—a vast, bottomless abyss.
He fell for more than ten hours, plunging tens of thousands of kilometers downward.
Finally, faint pinpricks of light appeared far below.
They had undoubtedly reached the underground world beneath the sea.
The Chaotic Sea must be close now, but Rosen had one pressing concern—how would he survive the impending impact?
