Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Awakening the Microcosmos
"Diana's strong. There's still one round left. Think you've got a shot?" Ada walked over to Liu A'dou while the Amazon archers were still preparing on the training field.
"It's fine. Winning or losing doesn't matter. What matters is whether I can awaken the microcosmos inside my body." Liu A'dou tapped the Bracers of Heracles on his wrists. During the earlier matches, if it hadn't been for his rich battle experience making up for his sluggish movements, Diana might have already beaten him.
"Well, I've made a bet with those warrior women that you'll win, so don't you dare lose," Ada said.
Liu A'dou looked at her helplessly. "Can you worry about me just a little?"
"I believe in you. Good luck." With that, Ada turned and walked off.
Seeing the archers had finished setting up, Liu A'dou exchanged a glance with Diana, and they stepped forward together. Diana was fired up, her gaze sharp and taunting.
The fourth event was arrow defense. Archers would shoot arrows at them, and both Diana and Liu A'dou had to block the attacks using their bracers. It began one-on-one, then progressed to two-on-one, three-on-one... The two of them had to continuously defend against an increasing number of archers. Even a single slip could be fatal. This was the ultimate training of Amazon warriors.
"Try not to wet yourself," Diana sneered.
Liu A'dou didn't respond. He was studying the bows in the archers' hands. They were top-tier war bows, and the distance was barely thirty meters. These arrows weren't much slower than bullets. He thought to himself—this was going to push him to the edge.
Bring it on.
Liu A'dou steadied his breathing, bringing his body into peak state. Every cell in his body surged with power. His brain was hyperactive, and he could even see the tiny spots on the shell of a ladybug flying eight hundred meters away.
Ever since awakening the Eighth Sense, Liu A'dou could feel more and more clearly how Ripple transformed his body. It was no wonder it was called the Immortal Way. At this point, he could even heal Rachel back in Gotham City. Once he returned, he would help her. But right now, he had to focus—on the arrows flying toward him.
The archers drew their bows. The match began.
Whoosh—
The arrow shot toward him in a flash. Liu A'dou saw it clearly, raised his arm, and let it strike the bracer.
Only now did he realize how much the bracers slowed him down. But that was the point of the training—to push beyond his limits.
Both of them blocked the first arrow successfully. Then two more archers stepped up, raising the difficulty.
Two arrows came at once. Liu A'dou crossed his arms in front of his chest, deflecting both arrows simultaneously.
Then two more joined. Six archers now stood on the field—three-on-one. Both Liu A'dou and Diana now faced three Amazon sharpshooters each.
They fired in unison. Three arrows in a flash.
Liu A'dou and Diana moved in sync, their arms blurring into afterimages. The spectators heard only the ding ding clang of deflected arrows.
"Three shots." Normally, that would've been enough to decide the match. But they were still going.
The warriors watching from the stands held their breath. Now eight archers stepped forward, arrows nocked and ready.
A unified twang of bowstrings. Four arrows shot through the air toward four different spots on Liu A'dou's body.
He couldn't afford even the slightest hesitation. His arms blurred—ding, ding, ding, ding—four clean blocks. Mission complete.
Diana, too, blocked all four with a serious expression.
"Good!" The audience erupted, cheering on their princess—and the man. Next came the five-arrow volley.
The archers fired simultaneously. With barely any time between shots, the arrows would arrive almost at once. The only way to defend was to extend your arms early and bring them in gradually, deflecting each shot in sequence.
But with more arrows, the reaction window shrank. Each round left less and less time.
Five arrows—barely even half a second to react.
As the arrows were loosed, Liu A'dou exhaled sharply. His arms were already in motion. Every movement had to be timed with extreme precision. Too fast and he'd miss. Too slow and he'd be skewered.
It all came down to calculation.
At the beginning, their movements had varied, but now, both Liu A'dou and Diana had to hit exact hand positions to block properly. As a result, their movements became unexpectedly synchronized.
First, the right hand blocked the first arrow. Then, as the left hand moved up to block the second, the right hand simultaneously retracted. After stopping the third arrow, both hands split outward to catch the final two.
By the time the last arrow was blocked, it was already brushing against their chests. Even the slightest delay, and it would've pierced flesh.
It was fast—almost faster than reflex. And now, it was time for six-on-one.
An unprecedented feat. Even the Amazon Queen couldn't help but break into a cold sweat for her daughter. Only legendary heroes had ever been able to block six arrows at once.
Diana tensed, but a glance at Liu A'dou beside her gave her resolve. She had to win. She had to accomplish the impossible.
In an instant—six arrows were airborne.
Neither of them was allowed to move their feet. To win, they had to take the barrage head-on.
Liu A'dou raised his arms. They felt unbelievably heavy. He knew now—he'd gone too far. Each bracer weighed five hundred jin, and the burden was crushing his speed. But the arrows were already on their way. If he didn't block them, he wouldn't just lose—he'd be seriously injured. An arrow through the chest? That would hurt like hell.
And Liu A'dou hated pain.
But wasn't he trying to break through his limits? Wasn't this all about awakening the microcosmos within?
He had to turn fear into strength.
The Saints of Athena were strong because they embraced death through faith. But Liu A'dou didn't worship any gods. He only believed in living at the peak of human potential—and that belief drove his strength.
Don't die. You can't die. Then fight. Block every last arrow.
Let the microcosmos awakened by the Eighth Sense finally shine.
A flash exploded from Liu A'dou's eyes. He drove both arms forward, and to everyone watching, it was like a beam of light burst forth. The six arrows were obliterated within that radiant surge.
On the other side, Diana managed to block five arrows—but the sixth was unstoppable, flying straight at her chest.
Honestly, why'd she have to have such a huge chest?
Diana, stubborn to the end, refused to dodge. She'd rather take the hit than retreat.
But Liu A'dou reacted faster than lightning. Two fingers snapped out, intercepting the final arrow with impossible speed. He appeared beside Diana in an instant, catching the arrowhead between his fingers. Only a whisper of fabric separated the cold tip from Diana's skin.
At that moment, Diana was wearing a cheerleader-style one-piece, with a horizontal cut across her collarbone. The tension had pulled the fabric taut. The outfit was undeniably revealing, and paired with her long, glossy black curls and the blush on her nervous face, she made quite the impression.
Yet Liu A'dou paid zero attention to any of that—he was too overwhelmed with joy.
Because he had done it. At the final moment, he had unleashed the pure power of his microcosmos.
He had glimpsed the Eighth Sense within the void of life and death, deep inside Pandora's Magic Box. And now, through sheer courage in the face of mortal danger, he had grasped the microcosmic energy that defined true warriors.
Liu A'dou was no longer a man with a power level of five.
In this world ruled by superheroes and supervillains, he now had the strength to stand among them.
A victory worth celebrating.
"I did it," Liu A'dou whispered to himself.
Then he raised a fist to the sky and punched upward—so hard the wind howled as if it might tear the sky in half.
