Chapter 148: Chapter 148 : A Storm of Evolution

Great Jura Forest

Nearly an hour had passed since the battle between the Orcs and the other races began. Kurumi had been busy slaughtering them and using Toki Hami no Shiro (Time Devouring Castle) to consume the life force and souls of the Orcs when she suddenly heard the voice of the World in her mind.

[Report. Checking the number of souls required for evolution… Confirmed. The required conditions have been met. The Harvest Festival will now begin.]

"Has it started?" Yukihime asked, raising an eyebrow as she stared at Kurumi, whose body was swaying unsteadily—it seemed she would lose consciousness at any moment.

"Yes, I'll rest in the Shadow World until the evolution is complete," Kurumi said as her body sank into the shadows. "I'll return in three days once the evolution is over."

A heavy silence fell after Kurumi disappeared into the swirling darkness, leaving behind a faint vortex of black energy that slowly dissipated into the air.

"It seems it's time to finish this, as Rimuru is about to end his fight against the Orc Lord," Yukihime muttered. In less than two hours, the Orc army's numbers had been halved—from 200,000 to just under 100,000. "And it looks like Akira and Asuna are on their way here too."

As Yukihime spoke, a flash of light appeared nearby, and Akira and Asuna materialized.

"…" Yukihime stared at Asuna, her eyes widening in shock. With just one glance, she could see Asuna's newfound strength—she was at least ten times stronger than before. Her current power was now comparable to Yukihime's own, which was utterly astonishing.

"Asuna, you…" Yukihime muttered, at a loss for words. The sheer magnitude of Asuna's transformation was both impressive and shocking.

"Hahaha, I guess that's the natural reaction," Asuna smiled slightly upon seeing Yukihime's expression. "I had a similar reaction when I felt my new power."

Unlike her original world, where a person's strength was fixed with no chance of growth, this world was completely different. Here, the paths to gaining power were clear and simple, allowing anyone the opportunity to become stronger.

Unfortunately, Asuna didn't realize that even in this world, becoming stronger wasn't easy without an incredibly powerful skill or something similar. But for her, having Akira by her side was the ultimate cheat—he was literally the strongest being in this world now, after the death of Veldanava, who had once rivaled him in power.

"It seems everything has gone according to plan," Velgrynd said as she appeared near Akira, accompanied by Honoka and Velzard. "You even gave her an Ultimate Skill."

"Sort of. Unlike a Demon Lord, who doesn't have many requirements to become a True Demon Lord, it's much harder for someone to become a True Chosen Hero," Akira said indifferently. With The Third Magic: Heaven's Feel and Goddess of Wisdom: Athena, it was easy for him to grant others powerful abilities. "That's why I gave her Lord of Thunderstorm: Indra, a skill that grants absolute control over lightning, allowing her to transform her body into actual lightning."

Lord of Thunderstorm: Indra was a skill Athena created based on Akira's memories and an enormous amount of magical energy. Thanks to Heaven's Feel, he never suffered from a lack of magic—it regenerated in the blink of an eye. Moreover, the constant depletion of his magical energy during his evolution had vastly increased his reserves, making them nearly infinite now.

Lord of Thunderstorm: Indra was inferior to Lord of Control: Astral Trinity, which had the power to control all things, including lightning. Athena crafted Lord of Thunderstorm: Indra based on data from Astral Trinity, specializing it solely in lightning control and granting it to Asuna. The skill suited her perfectly—her fighting style relied on speed and agility, which aligned with lightning's nature. But now, she also possessed its destructive and life-giving power, granting her several sub-skills: Lightning Speed, Thought Acceleration, Universal Perception, Holy Haki, Multidimensional Barrier, and All of Creation.

Though Lord of Thunderstorm: Indra wasn't as broken as Akira's own skills, it was still an immensely powerful ability, placing her among the strongest in this world.

BOOM!

Suddenly, a pristine white gate with golden engravings appeared out of nowhere, drawing everyone's attention.

"It seems she couldn't wait and has already arrived," Velgrynd smirked sarcastically at the sight of the gate—an extravagant Teleportation portal.

WHOOSH!

The gate opened dramatically, revealing a familiar silhouette in Akira's and the others' eyes. Everyone recognized her—except Asuna and Yukihime, who tensed up upon sensing the terrifying energy emanating from the other side.

STEP!

With a graceful and elegant step, a beautiful girl emerged. She had silver hair like the moon, heterochromatic red and blue eyes, and fair, radiant skin. She wore a black dress that contrasted with her silver hair and pale complexion, adding a dark yet captivating charm.

"Luminous…" Akira muttered upon seeing her. Though only a few days had passed for him since they last met, for her, 20,000 years had gone by.

For a moment, an oppressive silence filled the air.

Akira and Luminous stared at each other in silence, leaving Asuna and Yukihime bewildered.

"You'd better step back a little," Velzard advised as she, Honoka, and Velgrynd retreated slightly, forming a barrier around themselves.

"…" Asuna and Yukihime exchanged glances before wisely stepping inside Velzard's barrier. It was clear that the girl who had suddenly appeared radiated terrifying energy, while Akira smiled apologetically at her. There was obviously something between them, so it was best not to interfere.

"I missed you, my husband," Luminous said with a disturbingly sweet smile as she embraced Akira without hesitation.

Though Akira was puzzled by Luminous' behavior, he didn't have time to think about it—the moment she hugged him, he felt excruciating pain in his soul, surpassing even his own pain tolerance.

Energy Drain.

The name flashed in Akira's mind. He knew Luminous' ability allowed her to drain magical energy from whoever she embraced, converting it into pain that assaulted their soul. Though it caused no physical harm, the agony was unbearable.

"I missed you too, Luminous," Akira forced himself to endure the pain and smile as he hugged her back, ignoring the two figures who had emerged from the portal behind her. Right now, it was best to focus on Luminous—or else he would suffer even more later.
