Chapter 18: Reconstruction
The shelter was finally quiet. The earlier attack was over, but the damage it caused was a harsh reminder of how fragile their safety was. The broken door and cracked walls felt like an open invitation for danger to return.
Lu Fang sat on a fallen chair, staring at the doorway. His hand rested on the hilt of his sword as his thoughts raced. If another attack came, they might not survive. He couldn't let that happen.
His eyes moved to the others. Li Lan and Li Mei were helping the four newcomers settle in. The Shadow Guard stood in the corner, still and silent, as if nothing had happened.
Lu Fang clenched his fists. He needed to make the shelter stronger—strong enough to keep out any monster, no matter how powerful.
"System," he called out in his mind.
The system's calm voice answered.
[Yes, Host?]
"I want to upgrade the shelter," Lu Fang said. "Not just fix it—I want it to be unbreakable. How much points will that cost?"
The system paused before replying.
[To make the shelter indestructible, the cost will be 100 points.]
Lu Fang frowned. He had 221 points left. Spending 100 would leave him with 121. It was a big cost, but he couldn't hesitate.
"Do it," he said firmly.
[Confirming transaction. Deducting 100 points. Reconstruction will begin now.]
The air in the shelter changed immediately. A low hum filled the space, and the ground trembled slightly.
"What's going on?" Li Mei asked, her voice trembling.
Before anyone could answer, the walls of the shelter began to glow. The broken door and damaged frame dissolved into tiny sparks of light, and the entire structure rippled like water.
Everyone froze, watching in shock as the shelter transformed before their eyes.
The wooden walls turned into smooth, black stone that shimmered faintly, as if alive. The ceiling rose higher, supported by thick, unbreakable beams. New windows appeared, glowing with a protective light. The floor became polished stone, cool and solid underfoot.
Inside, the changes were even more dramatic. The simple tents where the survivors had been living vanished, replaced by small, sturdy houses made of the same black stone. Each house had a sloped roof and a strong door.
Around the shelter, a tall spiked fence rose from the ground, its edges gleaming with a sharp, metallic glow. At each corner of the fence, a tower appeared, its top holding a crystal that pulsed with light.
In just a few minutes, the transformation was complete. The shelter was no longer a fragile hideout—it was a fortress.
Li Mei and Li Lan stood frozen, their mouths open in shock. The four newcomers stared wide-eyed, unable to believe what they were seeing and the refugees were no diffrent.
"What… what just happened?" Li Mei whispered.
Li Lan turned to Lu Fang, her eyes filled with questions. "Did you do this?"
Lu Fang didn't answer. Instead, he walked past them and approached the four newcomers.
The group consisted of two men and two women, all of them young and exhausted. Their clothes were torn, and their faces showed fear and disbelief.
"Welcome to the shelter," Lu Fang said calmly. "You're safe here now."
The newcomers murmured their thanks and moved toward one of the new houses. Their steps were slow, as if they didn't trust what they were seeing.
Lu Fang turned back to the shelter.Li Mei and Li Lan were still staring at him, waiting for answers. But he wasn't ready to explain.
"Get some rest," he said simply and walked toward his own house.

Cut to the liang family house
In the grand Liang family estate, three powerful figures sat around a large table. The room was elegant, with carved walls and a spcially made furniture.
At the head of the table sat Liang hu, the leader of the Liang family. His sharp eyes scanned the two men sitting across from him.
One was xi hong, the head of the xi family. He was a large, rough-looking man with a loud voice. The other was qi yun, leader of the qi family, a thin man with a sly smile.
"The monsters are getting bolder," Liang hu said, his voice calm but serious. "We've already lost two outposts this month."
xi hong grunted. "Then we fight back. Show them we're not weak."
qi yun smirked. "And how do you plan to do that? Walk into the forest and challenge them one by one?"
qi yun glared at him. "You have a better idea, xi?"
xi hong leaned back in his chair. "We need to be smarter. There's talk of a survivor camp near the forest—a group that's been fighting off monster attacks. If we bring them under our control, we'll have more fighters and resources."
Liang hu raised an eyebrow. "A survivor camp? Do you have proof, or is this just gossip?"
Xi hong shrugged. "For now, it's rumors. But where there's smoke, there's fire."
Liang hu leaned back, his fingers tapping the table. "If this camp exists, we need to find it. Whether they join us willingly or not, they'll be useful."
The three men exchanged a look, silently agreeing.
Outside the Liang estate, the night was quiet, but tension filled the air. The forest loomed in the distance, hiding dangers even the powerful families of Wide City couldn't fully control.
