Chapter 38: Virtual World II
When everyone entered the lab beneath the garage, they were buzzing with excitement.
Sheldon looked around and noticed that the changes since last time weren't as drastic as he'd expected.
"Some things look different—you changed the formulas," Sheldon commented, noticing the scientific equations on the glass board.
"I don't understand any of this. What are you calculating?" Tam asked.
"I'm trying to calculate the minimum time interval needed to transmit massive amounts of data over long distances using quantum entanglement," Alex replied.
Sheldon looked at the equations and noticed the data was measured in ronnabytes per millisecond.
"That's impossible. No computer in the world has that many bits. And even if one did, what kind of file would contain ronnabytes of data?" Sheldon explained.
"What if it's a virtual world? With multiple AIs living their lives as if it were the real world?" Alex asked.
Everyone turned to Alex. Only Sheldon and Tam understood what he meant.
Missy and Mia just felt their brains buzzing, like they were about to overheat.
As for Billy—his mind had been wandering since they arrived. He hadn't paid attention to anything.
"That would be so cool. Makes me wonder—what if we're living inside a simulation?" Tam said.
"That's a solid theory," Sheldon replied.
"It's possible... but we'll never know," Alex added.
"Wait, what are you guys talking about?" Missy interrupted.
"Yeah, I don't get it either," Mia chimed in.
"Well, it's easier to show than explain," Alex said, walking toward a section of the wall that looked empty.
Everyone watched, unsure what Alex was about to do. But when he placed his hand on the wall, their eyes widened.
The spot where Alex pressed lit up red, then green—and a door opened sideways like an elevator.
They rubbed their eyes to make sure they weren't hallucinating. That smooth wall had been hiding something so secret?
Well, except Billy, who just watched with a goofy smile—he thought it was all incredibly cool.
"Come on in! I'm going to show you something amazing!"
Alex gestured for everyone to enter. It was actually an elevator that led to Alex's real lab.
The reason he no longer bothered hiding his inventions was because he wasn't afraid of the government storming his house, stealing his tech, and taking his family hostage.
Even though he didn't know if that could happen, he felt it was better to be prepared.
"What is this?" Mia asked, her voice tinged with surprise and a bit of fear.
Humans are like that—they fear what they don't understand.
"It's okay. It's just a regular elevator," Alex explained.
"Let's go. I trust Alex," Missy said, stepping in first and pulling Mia along.
Billy followed too—he thought everything was awesome.
"Is this like a Batcave?" Tam asked, his heart racing.
"Yep," Alex replied.
Tam stepped in, followed by Sheldon. Once everyone was inside, Alex entered last.
"Ana, take us to floor S-5," Alex commanded, and the doors began to close.
[Yes, sir. Estimated time to reach floor S-5: one minute.]
"Ana, what's on floor S-5?" Mia asked timidly.
Luckily, the sound sensors Alex installed were top-notch—even breathing could be picked up.
[Miss Mia, the underground floor S-5 is a recreational space, containing all kinds of games and a wide variety of snacks.]
"Wow! What kind of snacks? Is there ice cream?" Missy asked excitedly.
[All kinds. Mr. Alex prepared every type of dessert, candy, savory treat, and beverage.]
"Seriously? Anything?" Tam perked up.
[Yes.]
"Can I eat meat?" Billy asked.
[Yes, Mr. Billy. We have a machine capable of synthesizing all types of food.]
"What do you mean by synthesizing food?" Missy asked, confused.
Sheldon thought he'd misheard. Not just him—everyone was puzzled by Ana's response.
"You'll see when we get there," Alex said, cutting off their thoughts.
[Sir, floor S-5 reached.]
Ana's voice rang out, and the elevator doors opened.
Alex was glad they arrived right on time—he didn't want to explain too much.
He wasn't sure how long they could stay before someone came looking for them, but he had already instructed Ana to monitor the outside and alert him if any of their parents got worried.
"Welcome to my personal game zone," Alex said, stepping out of the elevator.
When Sheldon, Missy, Mia, Tam, and Billy looked around, their eyes lit up.
