The visit stretched past lunch. Fu Yunrui offered to share the food he brought, and they sat around the small table together, eating warm dumplings and noodles.

"I killed her."

"You survived her."

He turned his head slowly to look at her. "Is there a difference?"

"Yes," she said firmly.

He didn't reply.

But the silence was less heavy now.

More thoughtful.
