Chapter 40: Break - 3

The warm glow of the setting sun filtered through the windows of the Occult Research Club room. The group had returned from their day at the pool, now gathered in their usual spot.

The atmosphere was light and filled with the sound of friendly chatter and laughter.

Raizel sat in his usual seat, his posture impeccable, a cup of tea cradled delicately in his hand. His calm, stoic expression remained as he sipped the tea, savoring the quiet moments amidst the lively conversation.

His dark hair framed his face, and his red eyes seemed to observe everything, though he remained silent.

Beside him, Akeno had made herself comfortable, sitting close enough that her body pressed gently against his.

Her playful nature was on full display as she leaned in, her soft voice occasionally joining the conversation. However, her subtle actions were not lost on Raizel, who maintained his composed exterior despite the closeness.

Internally, Raizel was engaged in a different kind of struggle. His usual serenity was being tested as he worked to keep his emotions in check, the warmth of Akeno's presence stirring feelings he rarely allowed himself to acknowledge.

The system, ever the mischievous companion, seized the opportunity to tease.

[Well, Well, Well Raizel. How's that legendary composure holding up? You've got Akeno, practically draped over you.]

Raizel's mental voice was sharp and focused. 'I'm perfectly fine. Your commentary is unnecessary.'

The system chuckled, clearly enjoying the situation.

[Oh, come on. You can't fool me. Your heart rate's up, isn't it? Or is that just the tea?]

Raizel took another sip of his tea, his outward demeanor unchanged. 'Focus on something else. Your distractions are unwelcome.'

[Distractions? This is prime entertainment. Watching you try to maintain that stoic façade while Akeno turns up the charm? Priceless.]

The system's tone was filled with amusement.

Meanwhile, the rest of the group continued their chatter, oblivious to Raizel's internal battle.

Issei, as usual, was contributing his fair share of loud and often ridiculous comments, drawing a mix of laughter and exasperation from the others.

"Akeno, you're getting awfully close to Raizel there," Rias teased, her eyes twinkling with amusement.

Akeno, ever the playful one, smiled sweetly. "Oh, I just find Raizel's presence... comforting. Don't you?"

Rias chuckled, shaking her head. "I suppose so. Though I think Raizel might have a different opinion."

Issei, unable to resist, chimed in. "Why does Raizel get all the attention? I'm right here too, you know!"

Akeno turned her gaze to Issei, her tone teasing. "Maybe if you were as composed as Raizel, you'd get more attention."

Issei groaned, slumping in his chair. "Composed? He's like a statue! How is that supposed to be attractive?"

Raizel, still calm, set his teacup down gently. His voice, as always, was soft. "Issei, your volume is unnecessary."

The group chuckled at Raizel's subtle reprimand, but Akeno's attention remained on him. She leaned in slightly, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Raizel, you're so good at hiding your thoughts. I wonder what's really going on in that head of yours."

Raizel met her gaze, his eyes unwavering. "Nothing of importance."

Akeno smirked, clearly not believing him but choosing not to press further. Instead, she rested her head lightly on his shoulder, a content smile on her face.

The system couldn't resist one final tease.

[You know, Raizel, you're handling this better than I expected. Maybe next time, I'll up the ante.]

Raizel's mental response was swift. 'Fucking douche.'

The system laughed, the sound fading as Raizel returned his focus to the room.

The lively atmosphere in the club room was interrupted by the sudden appearance of a silver magic circle glowing brightly in the center of the room.

From it emerged two figures: Grayfia, her silver hair shimmering under the light, and Sirzechs, his crimson red hair and regal presence instantly commanding attention.

As soon as they appeared, everyone, including Akeno, quickly stood up out of respect. Sirzechs smiled warmly, his presence both imposing and comforting. "It seems I arrived at a good time," he remarked, his eyes scanning the room.

In contrast, Raizel remained seated, his posture calm and composed as he continued to sip his tea. His lack of reaction drew Issei's attention, who couldn't help but question him. "Raizel, why aren't you standing? That's Sirzechs Lucifer, the devil king of the Underworld!"

Before Raizel could respond, Sirzechs raised a hand, stopping Issei. "It's quite alright," he said, his tone gentle.

He then turned his attention to Raizel, offering a respectful nod. "Allow me to introduce myself properly. I am Sirzechs Lucifer, Rias's older brother. I've heard quite a bit about you and your assistance to my sister and her peerage, Mr. Raizel."

Raizel set his cup down on the table with a soft clink and met Sirzechs' gaze with his characteristic calm demeanor. "I am merely doing what any friend would do. It's not something that warrants your gratitude. However, I appreciate the sentiment. You may call me Raizel."

Sirzechs chuckled warmly, clearly appreciating Raizel's straightforwardness. "Very well, Raizel. It's a pleasure to meet you."

The room's tension eased slightly as Sirzechs' warm demeanor put everyone at ease. Rias, curious about her brother's sudden visit, stepped forward. "Brother, why are you here? Is something the matter?"

Sirzechs nodded, his expression turning slightly more serious. "There's something important I need to discuss with all of you, especially in light of recent events. But first, I wanted to meet the man who has been such a great help to you and your peerage."

Grayfia, ever composed, stood silently by Sirzechs' side, her presence commanding in its own right. Her gaze briefly flicked to Raizel, noting his calm and respectful demeanor.

Rias tilted her head, a hint of concern in her voice. "Is there something else?"

Sirzechs gave a small nod. "Yes, but we'll discuss that in detail shortly. For now, let's relax for a moment. It's not every day we get to visit you like this."

The group visibly relaxed, the formal atmosphere giving way to a more casual one. Sirzechs took a seat, and the conversations resumed, though there was an underlying curiosity about what he might reveal.

Raizel picked up his tea once more, sipping quietly, his calm demeanor unwavering even in the presence of the most powerful devil.

The system, ever the troublemaker, couldn't resist a comment.

[Look at you, Raizel. Sitting there like you own the place, even with Sirzechs Lucifer himself in the room. Impressive.]

'Keep fucking quiet, dammit.' Raizel mentally responded, his tone aggressive.

The system's laughter echoed in his mind.

Meanwhile, Sirzechs and Rias continued their conversation, setting the stage for the important discussion that was yet to come.
