Chapter 29: The Battle Skirt
With the high-stakes Rank B mission accepted, Kenjiro assembled his full, chaotic party in the guild's strategy room. Gluteus Maximus stood at attention, Lyrielle fidgeted with her staff, DragonSlayer69 tried to look cool leaning against a wall, and Kaito was preening his massive tail.
"Alright, listen up," Kenjiro began, pointing at the mission details on a large screen. "The target is a Chimera. The report says it's highly magic-resistant." He looked pointedly at Kaito.
The fox femboy sighed dramatically. "So my beautiful fireballs will just bounce off its ugly hide? How boring."
"You won't be useless," Kenjiro said. "You're fast. You'll be on camera duty. You'll follow the action and get the best highlight moments for the stream."
Kaito's eyes lit up with a sly, foxy grin. "So... I get to have a close-up view of all of you... for free? I like that idea~"
Kenjiro's face flushed. "S-shut up! Okay people, get ready. Meet back here in twenty minutes."
He stalked off to his room, his mind racing. A Rank B monster. He needed every advantage he could get. His eyes fell on the closet, specifically on a section he had been actively avoiding. The battle skirts. Ryo's words echoed in his mind. 'The mobility is fantastic, and the fans would go wild.' With a grimace, he decided to give it a shot.
He pulled one out. It was a dark, metallic material, almost like chainmail but lighter. It was incredibly short and designed to be worn over leggings, but of course, there were none. He put it on. It was tight, hugging his hips and rear in a way that felt both powerful and deeply embarrassing. He looked in the mirror and blushed. He could... kind of see the appeal now.
A small, glowing tag on the inside caught his eye.
Item: Armored Battle Skirt
Effect: +5 Strength, +5 Agility. If worn by a registered Lily: +10 Charisma.
His eyes widened. Stats. The clothes had stats! A surge of confidence shot through him. Everyone would see how powerful he was, even if his shadow didn't appear. He snapped a quick picture in the mirror, but didn't upload it. He'd save it for the right moment.
For a fleeting second, his thoughts drifted to Doctor Elara. It had been some time since their first encounter. Had that beautiful priestess already defeated him? Or was he eaten by some wild monster out in the wilderness? A small, vindictive smile touched Kenjiro's lips at the thought.
Knock, knock.
"Mr. Bombom, we are waiting for you," Gluteus's voice boomed from the other side of the door. "Do you need help putting on your clothes? Your glutes are quite large, but with my strength, I can surely assist!"
Kenjiro's blush returned with a vengeance. "N-NO, thanks! No help needed, I'm already going!" he yelled, flinging the door open.
He met the party in the main hall. When DragonSlayer69 saw him, the warrior's jaw dropped. "Ooooh... okay," he said, his eyes sparkling. "I might have to simp for you now."
"Okay, enough about me!" Kenjiro cut him off, desperate to change the subject. "I'm borrowing Ryo's personal driver and car. Let's go!"
He led them to the back exit where the armored car was usually parked. The chauffeur stood ready. They all piled in. Just as the car door closed and they started to pull away, Ryo came running out of the guild hall.
"Hey, I need my driver! I have to go— HEY, COME BACK HERE WITH MY CAR!" Ryo yelled, running after them as the car vanished down the road, leaving him in a cloud of dust.
