Chapter 4: Chapter 4: A New Familia
After days of treacherous battles and hard-won victories in the Veiled Peaks, the group returned to Nexus with their spoils. The bustling city welcomed them back with the promise of new opportunities. As they settled back into the guildhall, Jace couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. Yet, the longing for a place to truly belong lingered.
The group decided to explore the guild's options for joining a familia—a structured group of adventurers led by a deity. Familia members often lived and trained together, sharing their victories and struggles. However, as they inquired about available familias, they found that most were already full.
"This isn't looking good," Lyra muttered, scanning a noticeboard filled with recruitment posters. "Every familia worth joining has a waiting list a mile long."
Orin shrugged. "We could always form our own, but that takes time and a god willing to sponsor us."
Mira pointed to a small, handwritten note pinned in the corner of the board. "What about this one? The Hestia Familia. Looks like they're new."
Kade raised an eyebrow. "Never heard of them. Let's check it out."
The group followed the address to a modest building on the outskirts of the city. Inside, they found a young adventurer with white hair and a nervous smile: Bell Cranel. Beside him stood Kirigaya Kazuto, or Kirito, a swordsman clad in black who exuded an air of quiet confidence. The two were the only members of the Hestia Familia.
"Welcome," Bell said, bowing slightly. "Are you here to join us?"
Kade stepped forward. "We're considering it. What can you tell us about your familia?"
Kirito spoke up, his tone calm and measured. "We're small, but we're growing. Lady Hestia is dedicated to helping adventurers reach their potential. We may not have the resources of larger familias, but we make up for it with determination."
Jace exchanged a glance with his companions. The sincerity in Kirito's words resonated with him. "We'll think about it."
The next day, they returned to meet Hestia herself. The goddess greeted them with boundless enthusiasm and warmth, her bright eyes shining with hope. "If you want to join my familia, you'll need to pass a test," she declared, hands on her hips.
The test was a series of trials designed to assess their combat skills, teamwork, and resolve. Despite the challenges, Jace and his friends excelled, their bond proving unshakable.
When the trials concluded, Hestia clapped her hands in delight. "You're in! Welcome to the Hestia Familia!"
Bell and Kirito greeted them with smiles, and for the first time, Jace felt a sense of belonging he hadn't realized he was searching for. The journey ahead was uncertain, but with his new familia by his side, he was ready for whatever came next.
