Chapter 5: Fu Hua Appears by My Side
"Alright, alright, stop crying."
Fu Hua looked at the man who was covering his face with his hands and sulking in a corner, feeling like she was wasting her time—
Her mission objective was to investigate this childish thing?
This guy was able to call out the Fenghuang Down serial number and the nature of its power in the illusion. Could Otto have deliberately arranged this to make fun of me? Fu Hua inexplicably felt anger towards Otto again.
Although she knew this wasn't very likely, who cares?
As the saying goes, when you hate someone, even their breathing is wrong.
Besides, she was acting on orders, so there was no problem in putting the blame on Otto.
Who knows what she just went through...
As Fu Hua put away the Fenghuang Down, Lin Wei quickly regained consciousness.
He quickly looked around. The familiar beauty of the sunset was before him, the riverside path he walked on every day after dinner, and the end of the river was St. Freya.
He had probably fallen into the Fenghuang Down's illusion while gazing at St. Freya Academy, and now it was over.
He had won the gamble.
Lin Wei recovered from the confusion of his consciousness, focusing on the girl who had suddenly appeared before him. She was wearing a blue martial uniform, her figure was tall and straight, her aura was both masculine and feminine, her face was handsome, and she was looking at him seriously, as if waiting for his answer.
Lin Wei stared blankly at the girl, not because of some "my waifu appeared in front of me" kind of scenario that everyone likes, but because Lin Wei was overwhelmed by the emotions that surged up like a volcano inside him.
Lin Wei stared at Fu Hua for a long time, then suddenly raised his finger and burst into laughter. He laughed wildly and unrestrainedly, laughing so hard that he was bent over, and tears streamed down his face.
Then, he collapsed on the ground and cried loudly. He cried heart-wrenchingly, he cried with his guts twisting, he cried with tears and snot streaming down, he cried like a newborn baby.
Lin Wei himself felt that he was acting like a spoiled brat, but at this moment he couldn't control himself at all.
It was difficult to describe the feeling of joy and sorrow that Lin Wei felt at this moment.
Lin Wei had been transported for three months. For the first month and a half, he went with the flow. He didn't think of himself as a hero, nor did he want to be one, because he was afraid of death and just wanted to find a place to live peacefully.
The reason why a story is a story is because it is clearly unrelated to you, yet you can enjoy it.
Enjoy the heroic tales inside, and feel the joys and sorrows that belong to the protagonists along with them.
But when you personally enter this world and become one of the people in the picture, everything is different.
The protagonists are still the protagonists, their life trajectories remain the same, and as a transmigrator, there is never a place for you by their side.
Lin Wei knew his own limitations, so he had long given up on his fantasies. It was enough to be able to live peacefully.
He thought his requirements were not high. But the reality proved that he couldn't even get such a simple request.
The terror of Honkai erosion, the death knell, was crushing his soul day by day.
He knew he didn't have much time and had to find a way to survive.
But he was too weak and had no power to grasp his own destiny. He could only wait.
The waiting process was agonizing, an agony called death, an agony of being insignificant and powerless.
This gamble was just Lin Wei unilaterally placing all of his limited chips on the table, betting that someone would sit down and play this game, and as long as someone sat down, Lin Wei would win.
He even felt like he was going crazy.
Therefore, when Fu Hua really appeared in front of him as expected, the sense of power to control his fate, the sense of accomplishment of overcoming fear, the sense of hope for breaking free from death, and the complex emotions such as anxiety, hesitation, and fear that had been suppressed deep in his heart for a long time, all intertwined together, like a volcanic eruption, the earth shaking and mountains quaking, he cried and laughed unrestrainedly.
Fu Hua looked at the man rolling around on the ground, her temples throbbing. She didn't understand Lin Wei's feelings; she just felt that this guy was so noisy.
A feather brushed down, and the world was silent.
Just cry in your illusion. This is just bizarre.
Some passersby in the distance heard the commotion and started looking over. Fu Hua grabbed the dazed Lin Wei on the ground and instantly disappeared.
There were quite a few people around here who knew her. If someone saw this scene, the story would be twisted beyond recognition. If it spread into the school...
Then Otto might consider replacing the person assigned to the surveillance mission.
Thinking about this terrible consequence, Fu Hua felt like her blood pressure was about to burst. To fail a mission because of something like this, she would be laughed at until the end of the world.
Fu Hua reached into Lin Wei's pocket, pulled out the key, and opened his front door following his memory. She then threw him onto the sofa, sat on the other side and started questioning her life.
After living for so many years, she actually encountered a scammer.
Am I crazy, or is this world crazy!
(╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻
She glared at the unconscious Lin Wei, walked over to remove the bandage on his arm and took a look. She frowned, then took out a test tube, took a few drops of blood, sealed it up, and put it into her pocket.
Theoretically, no one should be eroded by Honkai near St. Freya Academy.
After more than half an hour, she felt that Lin Wei in the illusion had quieted down, put away the feather and prepared to continue the mission.
Completing her mission was always Fu Hua's principle. The mission wasn't over yet. Although this guy could call out the Fenghuang Down and Void Archives, there were a few people in the world who knew about them, at least the people in Anti-Entropy knew about them.
Therefore, Fu Hua was more surprised by Lin Wei's perceptiveness.
There were quite a few people who could resist the Fenghuang Down. Cecilia and Durandal, the top Valkyries of Schicksal, could do it, but all of them were the result of long-term targeted training.
To be able to find a way to notice the anomaly on his own, without any preparation, this little guy was indeed not simple.
Tsk, he was just a bit childish.
Lin Wei, who had regained his senses, was ashamed and embarrassed. He got up silently, poured Fu Hua a cup of tea, pushed it in front of her, and shrank to one side, covering his face with his hands.
This is so embarrassing!
"Alright, alright, stop crying." Fu Hua couldn't help but tease him. Wasn't he done yet?
Lin Wei sighed and sat up straight again, facing Fu Hua.
There was no other way, it was already like this. Lin Wei had to accept reality.
He wouldn't be able to get a three-star clear, but at least he shouldn't be stuck, right?
He had to pick up the chain he had dropped, even through his tears.
"Who are you?"
Fu Hua saw that Lin Wei had basically returned to normal and cut straight to the chase.
She had been observing Lin Wei secretly for several days. This guy stayed at home playing games every day, went out for a walk after dinner, often gazed at St. Freya, rarely went out, and was eroded by Honkai. He looked like he was just waiting to die.
How could this kind of person be connected to some mysterious organization?
Fu Hua was highly skeptical.
"Here it comes."
Lin Wei took a deep breath. The next negotiation would determine his fate, and he couldn't help but be cautious.
The originally envisioned equal negotiation was already impossible, but he still had to find a way to take the initiative, so he also cut straight to the chase.
"Miss Fu Hua, how much do you remember about your past?"
Fu Hua's heart was shaken. This guy was always full of surprises. She had already forgotten most of her past, and the man in front of her clearly knew more than she did, which was definitely not a good sign.
There was no need to continue the conversation. Fu Hua was prepared to find the answers herself, even if it would cause serious strain to her body.
"Using the Fenghuang Down to browse other people's memories is indeed a simple and effective method, but it will cause great strain on your mind, it's not worth it." Lin Wei didn't think that the identity of a "transmigrator" was a secret to be kept at all costs, but he also didn't want to expose it so cheaply, so he spoke first.
"Please rest assured, I have no malicious intent. Look, even if I did have malicious intent, what threat could I pose to you in this state? I can't even escape this house." As Lin Wei spoke, he removed the bandage, revealing his arm which was stained purple, openly showing his sincerity.
"I'm just a pitiful person on the verge of death, trying to find a way to survive."
"So you want to ask Schicksal for help? There's no need to go to such great lengths, just take a cab to St. Freya Academy, the fare is very cheap." Fu Hua was unmoved.
"I don't trust Schicksal, but I trust you, Miss Fu Hua, or rather, Hua."
This address struck Fu Hua's heart like a heavy hammer. An indescribable emotion overwhelmed her whole body, countless images flashed through her mind, disappearing like fleeting shadows, making her limbs go numb.
She didn't understand why she felt like this, nor did she understand what this address represented from her forgotten past, but it must be very important.
Fu Hua took off her glasses and threw them aside forcefully. Her deep blue eyes stared intently at Lin Wei. This feeling of being controlled was very unpleasant.
Lin Wei also looked up and met Fu Hua's eyes, unwavering, focused, and sincere.
This was a game where whoever blinked first would lose. It was also an unequal contest, but the chips on both sides determined that the side with more leeway wouldn't be so determined.
Fu Hua snorted coldly, withdrew her leaning body, raised her hand to signal Lin Wei to start his performance.
If he couldn't satisfy her, she could just use the Fenghuang Down to find the answers herself, it would be the same either way.
"I'm just an ordinary person, even if I know a little bit more, I'm still just an ordinary person. Just living is already exhausting. Look, even a small amount of Honkai energy can kill me." Lin Wei mocked himself, frankly sharing his state of mind.
"I knew that Nagazora City would be hit by the Honkai, so I fled from there. I knew that I could get protection at St. Freya Academy, so I came here. It's ridiculous, right? It's just that simple. In fact, if I hadn't done any extra actions, I wouldn't have even attracted your attention."
That was true, Fu Hua nodded. The reason Lin Wei attracted Schicksal's attention was precisely because of those inexplicable internet rumors. She motioned for him to continue.
It was a deal in name, but in reality, it was a cry for help. Lin Wei knew that he didn't have any chips from the beginning, so it was best not to lie.
Of course, Fu Hua would definitely not leave him alone, but what difference was there between taking him to Theresa or handing him directly to Otto?
Lin Wei had always believed that sincerity was the best weapon, but it was best not to use it as a weapon, unless there was no other way.
"Actually, I hesitated about whether I should do those things, because it would definitely bring me trouble, like it is now. But I still did it in the end, and even borrowed a large sum of money for it, because I wanted to live, and I wanted others to live."
"If I knew that disaster was about to happen and did nothing, what difference would I have from a murderer? Even for the peace of my own soul, I wanted to do something. It's ridiculous, right?" Lin Wei continued to analyze himself, telling it to Fu Hua, and also to himself.
So childish. Fu Hua thought.
"Good intentions will always be rewarded, just like now. What I thought would bring me trouble, has instead brought me unexpected hope, so I have been waiting for you to arrive." Lin Wei raised his head, looked directly into Fu Hua's eyes again, his eyes firm, with a desire for life, a refusal to give up on fate, a madness that gambled everything, and undisguised sincerity.
"I know about your mission at St. Freya Academy, and I also know about Otto's plan for K423. Frankly, I don't like your plans, but I don't have the right to give opinions."
Lin Wei's words were shocking, and he was directly handing over his life to Fu Hua's blade, he was still gambling.
Fu Hua narrowed her eyes, killing intent spreading out. But she remained silent. She wanted to see what this guy was up to.
"Otto won't allow any variables that are out of his control, so he will definitely investigate me. And I have no organization, investigating my social circle and experiences won't yield anything, so they can only investigate me myself. And he is a cruel person, with few people he can use at his disposal. Durandal can't be spared, and Rita has other important missions. All in all, the only person who could come to investigate me is Miss Fu Hua."
"Of course, Bishop Otto might also come personally, but I have no choice, I can only gamble on that probability, and fortunately, I won the gamble."
"Oh?" Fu Hua controlled her emotions, and continued to watch him talk non-stop, without interrupting him.
She had already listened to so much. She might as well listen to the rest of it before taking action.
"My life is short, but I want to live, so, I need a Stigmata..."
Fu Hua couldn't help but scoff, she was greatly disappointed. She thought he was going to reveal some shocking secret after all this talking, but this was it?
"If you'll allow me to be blunt, Mr. Lin, with your pitiful Honkai resistance, you're probably not worthy of Schicksal's artificial Stigmata."
Listening to this undisguised sarcasm, Lin Wei remained calm. The moment of truth had finally arrived. His life or death depended on what he said next.
"You've misunderstood, Miss Fu Hua. Of course, I know my limitations. I can't possibly reach Schicksal's standards." Lin Wei finally straightened his back, meeting Fu Hua's gaze completely. "I said, I don't trust Schicksal, but I trust you. Because you will definitely not refuse the trading terms I am about to propose."
Fu Hua found it amusing; she was learning new things today. The last person who spoke to her like this was Otto Apocalypse. The arrogance of this little guy was both annoying and interesting. She also felt a trace of curiosity about the "request that she would never refuse" that he had mentioned.
But then, Fu Hua felt like she had been struck dead by the words she heard.
"I need a Stigmata, a natural Stigmata. You can help me obtain it."
"Entangled with it, is a Herrscher, the Herrscher of Corruption from the Previous Era."
"You can eliminate it, and I can lead you to it."
"What do you say, Miss Fu Hua, or rather, Hua?"
"Does this condition satisfy you?"
