Chapter 21: Chapter 21: The Far Side of the Moon
[Siegfried declared he'd have to kneel on the washboard with a completely straight face, which left Welt utterly baffled.
"Huh?"
The clown covered his exposed, emerald-green right eye, grinding his teeth under the mask. However, for the sake of his plan, he couldn't kill Siegfried yet. He could only give up on killing Welt, pick up his hat, and dissolve into a flurry of feathers.
Siegfried looked at the Might of An-Utu on the ground, then helped the heavily injured Welt back to Babylon Tower. With emergency treatment from Einstein and Tesla, Welt's life was barely saved.
Siegfried took it upon himself to let the Anti-Entropy group stay at Babylon Tower. During the days Welt was being treated, Siegfried wasn't idle either. He investigated the clown but came up with nothing.
More importantly, Schicksal's satellites showed that the dragon-like Honkai Beast, Benares, had already carried the Second Herrscher out of the atmosphere, and Schicksal had no weapons capable of striking targets beyond it.
The heavily injured and unconscious Sirin lay atop Benares's head. As she awoke, she heard a voice—a gentle voice that her consciousness instinctively wanted to trust.
"My child."
"If you wish to obtain true power..."
"...then come to me."]
"Do people really live on the moon?" Sakura asked, puzzled.
"Sis, you're so silly. Of course, people can't survive on the moon," Rin said, acting like a little adult. "We already learned this in our middle school textbooks."
"Oh, so you dare to look down on your big sister now, do you?" Sakura knew Rin's weakness was being ticklish, so she began to tickle her underarms.
"Sister, hahahaha, sister, I... haha, I was wrong."
"Cool." Kosma's eyes lit up as he looked at the incredibly imposing Benares.
[At that moment, the movie began to show Siegfried's youth. At 15, an animated show called "Arahato" ignited a fire within him. He didn't want to be bound by the Kaslana name; he wanted to venture out, to become a 'hero.' Thus, the number of times a Kaslana heir had run away from home went from two to three. This greatly angered Overseer Otto, and it was only thanks to Siegfried's mother's pleading that he was let off the hook.
After that, Siegfried spent four years traveling the world, seeking to find the meaning of his own life with his own two eyes. Then one day, while dealing with Honkai Beasts in a small town, he caught Cecilia, who fell from the sky.
The gears of fate began to turn.]
This flashback was practically Siegfried and Cecilia's romance memoir. It was probably only enjoyable for Siegfried's family. At the same time, in different places, different people's armrests all broke at once.
"Oh my, Mr. Siegfried and Miss Cecilia are so sweet! ♥" Elysia clapped her hands.
"Hey, hey, Ely!" Su looked in terror at Yàqīng, who was now emitting a black aura. Even his usually squinted eyes were wide open.
"What's wrong?" Elysia asked, confused. She looked at Yàqīng and was instantly stunned. It was the first time Miss Pink Elf♪ had seen someone in real life emit a black aura out of anger, just like in an anime.
Curious, Elysia poked him.
Even Mobius couldn't resist.
Yàqīng thought to himself, In the original script, I explicitly told Patrick to shorten this part. Why did he create it exactly as it was, and even add extra material?
"Damn it!!! My Cecilia!!!" Theresa let out a tragic howl.
"Siegfried, you bastard!!!" A crowd of Schicksal employees couldn't hold it in any longer. Since it was a Schicksal-booked theater anyway, they let loose. Only Durandal, sitting in the middle, looked uncomfortable.
[The story of Siegfried and Cecilia's romance made the audience smile like a fond aunt, except for those related to Schicksal, of course. As Siegfried and Cecilia's lips were about to meet, Otto also recalled the image of Kallen, and the rest of the audience wished they could grind Siegfried to dust.
The tone of the movie suddenly shifted. A sleeping Siegfried woke up at the control console in Babylon Tower. He heard a report: a massive Honkai energy reaction had been detected on the moon.
The unconscious Welt opened his eyes.
"The worst has happened..."
Amber's cool voice narrated again.
"We can only see the side of the moon that faces us. As for the far side, it wasn't until October 7, 1959, that the Soviet Union's Luna 3 satellite sent back the first blurry photograph of it."
Otto appeared on screen. He looked at the photograph in front of him and crumpled it fiercely in his hand.
"Upon seeing the photograph, Overseer Otto immediately classified it as top secret and invested massive resources into lunar exploration."
"On the other side of the world, Anti-Entropy, having noticed the Overseer's strange actions, also began its own research into the moon. In the span of 12 years, both sides launched a large number of lunar probes."
"Finally, after countless failures, three Schicksal astronauts successfully landed on the far side of the moon. There, they discovered Honkai energy, which they thought only existed on Earth."
"And also, that thing, shrouded in Honkai energy..."
"Afterward, both Schicksal and Anti-Entropy simultaneously ceased their lunar explorations, imposed a total information blackout, and fabricated the illusion for the general public that there was nothing on the far side of the moon."
"Amidst the woven lies, people celebrated a false victory."
"'That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.' That sentence is not wrong. It was indeed a giant leap for mankind."
"One giant leap... right before our extinction!"]
"So realistic!" MEI muttered to herself. She was no longer leaning on Kevin, sitting up straight and watching the movie intently.
"Hey, Yàqīng, did you guys at Schicksal really find something on the moon?" Vill-V asked excitedly. It was public knowledge that Schicksal had funded the aerospace industry a few years ago and had launched a probe to the moon.
Although Mobius was skeptical, she still looked at Yàqīng seriously.
Yàqīng said helplessly, "Hey, hey, are you guys really taking the movie seriously? It was just an idea. As for Schicksal launching a probe to the moon, we just wanted to see what the difference was between lunar soil and Earth's soil. If we really found something, how would I dare write it into a movie?"
"You'd better be telling the truth," Mobius snorted.
"Senior Mobius, I never lie."
Yàqīng couldn't possibly tell them that he once had a dream that felt so real it scared him, so he wanted to verify if his world was the same as the one in the dream, which is why he had Schicksal investigate the moon.
Mobius keenly sensed that Yàqīng was hiding a lot. She couldn't believe it—had Schicksal really discovered something on the moon?
