Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Welt, Inheritance and Guardianship
[On screen, the battle between Sirin and Welt, brought to life by the combined special effects technology of Schicksal and Anti-Entropy, never ceased to amaze the audience. Purple-red lightning clashed with blue energy. Unfortunately, Welt was outmaneuvered. He was caught by a white hand as Benares made its first appearance, swallowing the First Herrscher whole.
With the battle over, Sirin floated in the air, still thinking about Theresa, completely oblivious to a man in a white suit and a clown mask watching her from a distant mountain cliff.
"Let's see just how far the Second Herrscher has awakened," the clown said to himself.]
"That's you, isn't it, Otto?" The familiar voice, the familiar golden hair—even with the mask, Kallen recognized the man she shared her bed with at a single glance.
"Hahaha," Otto laughed.
"Otto, you're not angry?" Kallen asked.
Otto smiled and said, "Angry? What do I have to be angry about? Kallen, I have never considered myself a wise man. I have always seen myself as a fool. And a fool and a clown make a good pair, don't they?"
Kallen indicated she didn't understand.
Otto then told her, "Kallen, you don't need to concern yourself with the internal politics of Schicksal. You just need to be happy and joyful every day."
On the surface, Schicksal's board of directors was a diverse assembly, but behind the scenes, Otto held absolute power. Still, there were always people who wanted to challenge his position, hoping to outlive him and carve up Schicksal for themselves. Anti-Entropy had split off precisely because they couldn't stand Schicksal's internal strife.
There was a saying in Schicksal: before Yàqīng appeared, Otto at least wouldn't target you openly. But after Yàqīng came along, it was as if Otto had acquired a newly sharpened blade.
Yàqīng was known as Otto's sword, but there was no denying that this sword was indeed sharp. How could one make a century-old Schicksal family disappear completely in just three years? No one had ever thought someone could actually do it.
Otto was the hilt, and Yàqīng was the blade.
No one in Schicksal, from top to bottom, dared to disobey.
[Swallowed into the dragon's belly, Welt began to have a flashback. Amidst ruins and rubble, a black-haired young man sat weakly against a wall. Blood seeped from the bandages on his abdomen. A brown-haired boy pressed down relentlessly, trying to stop the bleeding.
"Don't force it. I can feel... my life is coming to an end," the young man's voice was extremely weak, like a candle in the wind.
"No, you're not going to die! You're Welt, you're our hero!" the boy cried.
"Welt... huh? It's a great name, isn't it?" The young man raised his hand. In his palm lay a grayish-white gem. Seeing the boy's tear-streaked face, he smiled. "In that case..."
"From now on, you are Welt. The Herrscher Core, and the mission to protect this world (WELT)—"
"—I'm counting on you, Welt (WELT)."
In the darkness, Welt Yang's expression shifted from calm to fierce. His crimson-purple eyes, filled with killing intent, snapped open. He declared solemnly, "Today, Welt will once again fight for this world!"]
"That was so cool." Welt Yang looked at his magnificent on-screen self, then seemed to remember something. "Brother Joyce, you died so tragically."
"Get lost," Joyce said irritably.
"Was this a surprise for Joyce? We didn't see this scene when we read the script," Einstein said. "What is that young director thinking?"
"Trying to win us over?" Tesla guessed.
Einstein retorted, "Dr. Tesla, you should watch fewer soap operas. Yàqīng Schariac was raised by Otto himself. I heard that in private, Yàqīng even calls Otto 'dad.' Do you really think he'd try to win us over?"
(Yàqīng: Slander! This is pure slander!)
"Dr. Einstein, you!" Tesla knew she couldn't win this argument, so she changed the subject. "Who did Joyce's voice? It sounds so similar."
Welt Yang explained, "It's Schicksal's latest technology. It can imitate a person's voice, including their tone and inflection. In the future, movies might not even need live voice actors."
"How do you know that?" Joyce asked, puzzled.
"Yàqīng Schariac developed this technology himself. He never intended to hide it," Welt Yang said with a shrug.
"Hah, this young master actually developed a whole new technology just to make a movie? He must have too much free time," Tesla said, looking down on anyone associated with Otto.
"Uh... that majestic, powerful, and beautiful dragon is me, right?" Bella, sitting with Sirin, couldn't help but exclaim when she saw herself on screen. Although she already knew she wasn't a human in the story, she couldn't help but love the character model.
"Bella, I've noticed you're getting more and more narcissistic lately," Sirin said, rolling her eyes.
[Welt forcibly pried open Benares's mouth and emerged. Hearing Benares's roar, Welt glanced sideways and, with a "Don't get in my way," temporarily took it offline.
Welt spread his hands. The Authority of the Herrscher of Reason activated, and countless creations of human ingenuity materialized behind him, including but not limited to fighter jets, tanks, and mortars.
Sirin was furious that a Herrscher would borrow the power of humans, and even more enraged that the weapons she considered toys were actually breaking through her barriers.
"Don't be ridiculous! How can human weapons possibly harm a god!"
Welt snorted. Honkai energy erupted from him as if he didn't care about his own life. Countless Titan mechs appeared out of thin air.
"Have you finally realized?!"
"This is the power of the First Herrscher."
"As long as I understand the principles of its construction, I can create any weapon with Honkai energy."
"As long as I live, this army will not fall."
"These are the weapons created by humanity!"
"This is the civilization created by humanity!"
Blood trickled from the corner of Welt's mouth. He looked up at Sirin in the sky, just as Joyce had once faced the tyrant in the heavens, and roared: "I, Welt, challenge you on behalf of humanity."
"God!"
"Let's test it, shall we? Whether humanity has the right to survive!"
"All units..."
"FIRE!!!"]
"So awesome!" Welt Yang jumped up excitedly like a child, knocking over Einstein's coffee.
Realizing what he'd done, Welt Yang saw Einstein's darkening face and knew he was in trouble. Just as he was about to apologize, he saw Einstein take out a handkerchief and wipe the coffee stains from his shirt, as if caring for a child.
"Ein, I'm a grown-up now," Welt Yang said, his mouth twitching.
"Oh, are you?" Einstein's face was impassive. "But I seem to remember it wasn't that long ago that we first met. Weren't you calling me 'big sister' and asking for a hug back then?"
Hearing this, Tesla and Joyce couldn't hold back their laughter.
This is revenge, Welt Yang thought. This is definitely revenge!
"I have to admit, in little Yàqīng's script, Welt's character is perfectly crafted. If such a person existed in reality, I think I would become friends with him," Otto said.
"Heh heh." Kallen gave an awkward laugh.
"Whoa, that's so cool?!" Senti exclaimed in surprise.
"Compared to him, Great-Auntie just..."
"Shut it! Kiana, if you say one more word, your winter break homework will be doubled."
"Great-Auntie, I was wrong!!!"
Mei smiled and confiscated Kiana's chips. This was the 30th bag she had eaten since the movie started. If she kept this up, Mei was afraid she wouldn't eat dinner.
