Heaven Awaits in Hell

Chapter 25: Black bracelets

The bottom of the Abyss was as huge in area as the top. The red luminous stones were replaced with yellow-coloured ones. Their quantity was also much larger than earlier.

Zion and others, though near the bottom, were still descending. While at it, they kept looking at their sides and observed the area from above.

The bottom was divided into two halves

In one half, a lot of dwellings and buildings were made and looked like a residential complex.

The other half was filled with many empty wooden crates. The carts were being filled by workers wearing dilapidated clothes.

The crates were then loaded on a huge metallic platform, which was connected with a thick rope on all four sides.

The ropes met at a common point upwards and became a much thicker rope.

The image of the huge crane from earlier flashed in Zion's mind the next moment.

However, his attention was soon attracted by the conversation of the guards when they were finally on flat earth.

"How many new moles this time?" a guard waiting at the entry gate asked.

"Ten, from 208 to 218," the man leading them answered.

"Noted, your accommodations are ready, so you two can go and rest there. I'll take over these moles for you," The guard said.

"Thanks, it's frustrating to come all the way down here during surface shifts," the man ranted while rubbing his forehead.

"Haha, I would be pissed as well if I were assigned to come down here just a week before shift change," The guard laughed at his companion's luck and consoled him with a pat on his shoulder.

"Go freshen up and rest so that you can leave for the surface early tomorrow morning," the guard said, and the two of them left.

With that, the guard's attention finally landed on Zion and the rest.

"Follow me," The guard said apathetically and turned around.

They followed after him and were brought to an empty building.

"Wait here," The guard said. He opened the latched door and went inside. Soon, he came out with a small box containing ten obsidian black bracelets.

"208, come here," The guard called.

The man with 208 imprinted on his back gulped down his saliva and walked towards the guard.

The guard took his right hand and put the bracelet on him.

CHIK!

The bracelet constricted and embedded itself into his hand.

AHHHHH!

The man cried in pain as blood started dripping down from his hand, but the next moment, the bracelet absorbed it all and glowed with a reddish hue, and the man's shrieks became louder.

"209," The guard called.

Seeing the familiar hints of fear and resistance on the person's face, the guard said, "I'll wait for three seconds, if you're not here until then, I'll kill you without a second thought."

The man immediately hurried to the guard when he heard this, and another painful cry echoed.

Like this, one by one, everyone was called, and soon it was Zion's turn.

"216"

Zion walked forward and showed his hand to the guard.

The guard put the bracelet on Zion, and the next moment, Zion felt pins growing out of the inner side of the bracelet, and they embedded themselves in his wrist.

"AHHHHH!"

Zion could grit his teeth and endure the pain, but he didn't. He had understood from his last experience that the more he resisted, the more pain these guards would make him go through.

As his blood was absorbed by the bracelet, he felt the little embers of the Qi that were still left in his body being absorbed.

However, he felt a buzz from the ring the very next moment, and his Qi returned to its place, no longer affected by the bracelet.

Zion's eyes widened in surprise as he sneakily glanced at the guard.

'He didn't notice,' Zion sighed in relief and acted to grimace from the pain like the rest.

Ten minutes later, the guard made them stand in a line and addressed them.

"From now on, you are no longer humans but moles. You will always be referred to by your numbers and not names, so it's better to forget them.

Your job? Dig! That's your job as moles from now on. Keep digging where you're told and follow all the orders, whether you want to or not!

You've been sold to us by your masters, so it's better to get to terms with the fact that you'll spend your whole life in here lest you do something stupid."

Listening to the guard's words, a bitter expression formed on everyone's faces as they were reminded of how they were sent here.

Together with the guard, they left the residential complex of the guards and entered the second half of the bottom.

"76! Come here," The guard called an old man over.

Hearing his number being called, the shrivelled old man tensed up at first. However, when he glanced at Zion and the rest, a hint of understanding appeared in his eyes.

The old man soon dragged his weary body towards the guard.

"Yes, sir," the old man responded after reaching the guard.

"Show these new moles around and explain to them everything that they need to know," the guard said.

"Yes, sir," the old man responded.

The guard went back the next moment, and the old men started showing Zion and the rest around.

Meanwhile,

At Mo Li's manor.

Fana was standing outside Mo Li's chamber. She took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

"Come in," Mo Li's words came from inside.

Fana slid the door open and entered his chambers. Mo Li was sitting on his bed with a white robe on. Seeing Fana, he placed a book he was reading on the bedside table.

"You're here," looking at her, he smiled, "Come, sit here."

Mo Li patted on the spot next to him.

Fana's breath paused for a second before resuming as she walked towards the bed and sat down next to him.

"Are you aware of what happens between a man and a woman when they share a bed?" Mo Li asked calmly.

"Y-yes…my mother taught me before my engagement," Fana was way too nervous and told Mo Li something unnecessary.

"Oh? You are engaged?" Mo Li asked with interest.

Realising what she had said, Fana immediately corrected herself in a hurry, "I-I am not engaged. The man I was supposed to marry died before my engagement, as my village was attacked."

"Your village got attacked? By whom? What happened?" Mo Li asked, showing that he was very interested.

"It was the wolves, they-" Fana told everything to Mo Li. The more she talked, the calmer she became as her whole attention shifted towards answering Mo Li's queries.

Time went on, and before Fana could realise it, she had talked for half an hour.

"I see, thank you for telling me," Mo Li smiled and continued, "It's getting late, so I'll give you your reward, which I promised earlier."

Mo Li leaned towards Fana the next moment as his face closed in on her.

Fana's calm heart once again started beating when she saw Mo Li's face closing in. She closed her eyes in panic and pursed her lips, but what happened next wasn't what she had expected.

Mo Li's forehead touched hers, and the next moment, an abundant amount of knowledge she had never gone through herself appeared inside her head.

'Wait…what is going on…' Fana thought in confusion and surprise as knowledge about martial arts kept pouring into her mind.

By the time Mo Li retracted his forehead, Fana's eyelids felt as heavy as lead. She was completely exhausted.

"Don't worry, just sleep," Mo Li playfully whispered in her ears and helped her lie down in his bed.
