Heaven Awaits in Hell

Chapter 21: Ten Seconds

"Well, there's a problem you see," Mo Li feigned a conflicted expression and continued, "I'm someone who strictly believes that if someone does anything wrong, they should pay the price."

His eyes landed on Zion's half-dead body, and he continued, "The crime he committed is enough for me to kill him, but seeing your commitment and sincerity towards him, my heart is flattered.

Therefore, I'll give you a choice.

To take punishment in his stead, and not only will I save his life, but I will also allow you to live freely in this sect with him. What do you think? Isn't that a great deal?"

Mo Li finished his words and stared at Fana with a playful gaze.

Hearing his words, a trace of hesitation and hope appeared on Fana's face as she asked, "What kind of punishment?"

"Your right arm, chop it off. You, of course, don't need to do it yourself since I've got capable men with me." When Mo Li finished his words, he nodded at the group leader.

Seeing this, the group leader took out his sword and walked towards Fana.

All colour drained from Fana's face when she saw the man closing on her with his sharp blade.

"Wait! Wait! No!" She exclaimed in fright and fell on her back. Her legs pushed the floor, and she kept dragging herself back from him in fear.

"Han Jin, Stop," Mo Li said and Han Jin stopped just a few meters away from her. It was only then Fana could breathe properly

"Did I assume wrong? I thought you would readily give your arm to live freely with your lover. Was I mistaken? Are you two not lovers?" Mo Li asked with a confused expression underneath, as he was beaming with joy.

Fana was about to say something, but she turned towards Zion the next moment.

Although heavily wounded, he was still conscious and, with his bloodied face, looked at her.

Zion felt conflicted. However, there was a large part of him that believed that Fana would choose to live with him and give up her arm. His eyes carried trust in her.

Seeing those eyes, Fana bit her lips as a lot of thoughts kept flashing in her mind.

A heavy aura descended in the whole room the next moment.

"I've been patient so far, but I feel as if you are not valuing my time. Ten seconds. I'll give you ten seconds to make a choice. Serve me as a bedmaid or give up your arm,"

Mo Li's whole aura became terrifying and made everyone in the room shiver in fright.

Fana was the worst affected, and her breath was in disarray. She tried to control her breathing to think clearly, but Mo Li saw through that and started counting backwards.

"TEN"

"NINE"

The sense of urgency made her thinking turn haywire.

'He's counting! What should I do?! I've got only ten seconds!"

"SIX"

'I need more time to decide….I can't do this...I want to save him…but he wants my arm!'

"FOUR"

'No! I can't lose my arm! I can't live my life as a cripple…isn't it the same as dying!'

'TWO'

'Yes…I should focus on survival …he's just a cripple anyway…he won't be able to survive in this new world… It's better for him to just die now."

'ONE'

"What's your decision? Tell me, or I don't mind killing you both here and then," Mo Li commented. His breathing rate had increased, and excitement could almost be seen on his face even though he was trying hard to contain it.

Fana stood up the next moment. She could feel Zion's gaze fixed on her from her peripheral vision, but she ignored that.

She took two steps ahead and kneeled down on the ground, "I'll do my best to serve you, master."

"Fana….you!' Zion struggled to get words out of his mouth, but he couldn't. His breathing was heavy, and a sense of betrayal had taken over him.

He knew that his wanting Fana to choose him over Mo Li was very selfish of him, but he, for once, wanted Fana to fulfil his selfish request.

He had braved so many dangers to protect her life during their time together in the forest.

Was expecting Fana to do this much, a lot to ask for? He was even willing to cross paths with death to save her from the two-winged tiger…but she...she couldn't even sacrifice an arm for him?

'You've always done what's been convenient for you…it was the same in the village and it's the same here…' Zion thought, completely crestfallen as he lost his consciousness soon after.

Seeing Zion's defeated face and Fana's conflicted expression, Mo Li couldn't control himself any longer.

HAHAHAHAHA!

Mo Li's laughter echoed in the entire hall as he kept slapping his thighs.

"Wonderful! That was pure entertainment and I loved it," He commented after recovering a bit and then told Han Jin, "Get him treated and send him to the spirit mines for the rest of his life. It would be a waste to kill him."

"Yes, master," Han Jin obeyed and left the room along with his team and Zion.

"As for you," Mo Li looked at Fana and continued, "I'm greatly impressed by your decision today,"

Mo Li started laughing once again in delight.

Hearing him praise her, a sense of shame and disgust for herself rose in Fana's heart, but she gritted her teeth and didn't let it affect her.

'Being a cripple is the same as dying. I did everything for my survival, so I have no regrets!' She kept repeating it to herself.

Mo Li then addressed the maids who had brought Fana, "Arrange a room for her in the main manor, and wait for my further instructions."

"Yes, master," The two maids bowed towards Mo Li and soon left with Fana.

"Whatever decision you would have made today, your fate was sealed since the moment my eyes landed on you," Mo Li snorted with a playful smirk and stood up.

"I'm going to the main house, don't bring me dinner tonight," He addressed the two women who were fanning him.

"Yes, master," The two of them bowed.
