Harry Potter The Serpent’s Turn

"Good thing I'm not trying to help then." Harry grinned before Mad-Eye winked at him and he couldn't supress the laugh that came out. A few seconds later Malfoy had managed to escape Crabbe's pants, McGonagall pointed her wand at him and to Harry's disappointment ferret Malfoy turned back into human Malfoy. "Goddamn it." Harry sighed. "Another thing you've ruined for me professor."

"My father will hear about this!" Malfoy said glaring at Moody.

"Is that a threat?!" Moody demanded as he began chasing after Malfoy who began running around a tree to try and escape him, Harry mentally noted how he didn't seem to be using his cane but decided to file that away for later and just spend the moment enjoying Moody chasing Malfoy. "Is that a threat?!" Moody shouted as Malfoy tried to run away only for Harry to send a discreet tripping hex at his feet, causing him to fall on the floor. "I can tell your stories about your father that will curl even your greasy hair boy!" Moody roared as Malfoy got back up to his feet and ran. "It doesn't end here!" He shouted to the running Malfoy.

"Alastor!" McGonagall said, bringing his attention back to her. "We never use transfiguration as a punishment! Surely Dumbledore told you that."

"You have punishments?!" Harry blurted out with fake shock. "I mean with all of the bullying and swearing and cursing between students I could never have guessed." McGonagall seemed to be ignoring him and focused on Moody.

"He might have mentioned it." Moody sighed.

"And you'll do well to remember it. " McGonagall said in a warning tone. "Twenty points from Gryffindor Mr Potter." She added before walking off and shooing away the other students who had watched the whole thing. As soon as she was not looking at him Moody stuck his tongue out at her and made a face at the same time as Harry. Moody grabbed his cane and began walking away.

"You come with me." He said to Harry who followed, Harry did as he was told and followed. Although this time he couldn't help but notice that now Moody looked like he actually had to use his cane.

"That was bloody brilliant by the way." Harry said as he followed Moody. "I need to learn that spell by the way, when you go at the end of the year I can have fun changing the prat into a ferret."

"It's a complicated spell lad, do it wrong and you end up killing him." Moody warned.

"Would it be painful?" Harry asked.

"Incredibly." Moody nodded.

"Yeah you should know that that's just encouraging me to do it." Harry admitted, causing Moody to laugh.

"Ha! I didn't expect that type of thinking from you Potter." Moody said as he gave Harry an appraising look. "Anyone I asks says that you're the golden boy of Gryffindor."

"I used to be." Harry said in an almost embarrassed voice. "But then I stopped caring about what the sheep of the wizarding world think."

"Really?" Moody stopped, which caused Harry to stop, Moody looked at him for a few seconds before speaking again. "and what are you now?"

"I am me, and people had better get out of my way or get ready to be run over." Harry said, looking Moody straight in the eye. Moody looked at him for several moments.

"Ha!" Moody barked. "come with me Potter." Moody said before he walked off with Harry following after him.

"Lucius!" Narcissa said as she arrived in Lucius's office. "We're being sued!" She said as she slammed a letter down on his desk.

"What?!" He blurted out before he grabbed the letter and began reading.

"Apparently the Potter boy is suing us because Draco used his name in some badges!"

"What the fuck?!"

 ...

Harry was sitting in the chamber of secrets, one hand was stroking Selena who leaned into his touch while the other hand held up the book that Moody had given him. Moody had given him two books, one on spells and the other on occlumency and legilimency which were both mind magics. The first defended your mind against the second while the second was invading somebody else's mind.

Harry had no doubt that Snape and Dumbledore knew this due to the fact that in most of their conversations the two always tried to look him in the eye, something that was important when reading minds. Plus there was the fact that they both always seemed to know what was going on. Harry could easily believe Snape would read minds just to discover cheating or find a reason to punish people or even just because he wanted to. He could imagine the smug prick feeling proud and superior because he could read minds without people knowing.

As for Dumbledore, well at one point Harry would never have suspected the headmaster of it, but now things were different. When Harry first arrived in Hogwarts Dumbledore was looked at like Merlin himself. But Harry's opinion of the man changed over the years.

In his first year Dumbledore had tried to bait the dark lord by holding the philosopher's stone in the school, to Harry it was clear that the man did not prioritise the children of the school like he should. Because in Harry's opinion the stone should never have been brought into the school nor should Dumbledore be trying to use it to bait dark lords in a building full of children. Heck even his first trap, Fluffy the giant three headed dog, was dangerous and could have killed someone if it escaped.
