Harry Potter: Don't Touch the Badger's Plants

Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Levicorpus, Sectumsempra

Looking at these two spells that had considerable presence in the original story, Ciel's eyes shimmered with excitement.

He currently only knew three spells—Soil-Loosening Charm, Pruning Charm, and Lumos Charm. None of them could be used in combat.

The appearance of Levicorpus and Sectumsempra could solve Ciel's problem of lacking magical combat methods. Although Ciel only wanted to farm peacefully and develop himself, such deterrent methods could go unused, but he couldn't be without them!

After taking a deep breath, Ciel first focused his gaze on the Levicorpus spell. This spell's effect was to make the target hang upside down in midair. Unless the counter-spell "Liberacorpus" was cast, they would be unable to break free for a long time.

This should be Snape's inspiration from some prank spells, which led him to create this highly effective control spell.

Ciel carefully examined the principles of Levicorpus. Delight gradually spread from his eyes. Snape's development of this spell was more thorough than Ciel had estimated.

This was actually a wandless, silent spell! Reciting the incantation could unleash full power. But in emergency situations, without needing the incantation, just making the casting gesture could trigger it. However, the power would be much weaker.

In more extreme cases, if magical perception and strength were sufficient, even a wand wouldn't be needed—just hand gestures could cast it!

Ciel also recalled Harry's performance when he first learned Levicorpus in the original story. Indeed, he hadn't even used a wand. He had directly used a gesture and hung Ron upside down in the air during their scuffle!

Thinking of this, Ciel took a deep breath. His heart was filled with admiration for Snape's talent.

"If it were just a prank spell to hang people upside down, students who could create such spells were common among Harry's year when they got older. But creating such a spell to the point where it can be cast wandlessly and silently... that's truly unprecedented."

Wandless, silent spellcasting was absolutely one of the most difficult casting techniques in the wizarding world. Few wizards could achieve this level. Yet Snape could directly make Levicorpus be released wandlessly and silently. This talent was truly stunning.

After his admiration, Ciel valued Levicorpus even more. If used well, this spell might produce miraculous effects in some battle.

Then he first cast the complete Levicorpus.

"Levicorpus!"

While reciting the incantation, his wand quickly swung upward, making a hooking motion. Then, silently, a stream of magic shot from Ciel's wand tip and hit a desk in the classroom.

This desk immediately seemed to be pulled by invisible force. It hung upside down from the classroom ceiling.

Looking at this magical scene that completely violated physics, Ciel was quite interested. He observed this desk for ten minutes. He discovered that it was truly as Levicorpus claimed.

As long as no counter-spell or other breaking methods were used, this desk could really hang from the ceiling indefinitely. Ten minutes had passed, and there was no sign of it falling!

"Magic in Harry Potter's world is truly extraordinary. If physicists from the Muggle world saw this scene, their worldviews would probably collapse. But such a miraculous thing was easily accomplished by a young wizard like me."

Then Ciel made the opposite gesture. His wand swung downward.

"Liberacorpus!"

Only then did the desk flip back and fall heavily to its original position.

Then Ciel tried the silent, wandless version of the spell. He swung his wand. But without speaking the incantation, merely reciting it mentally.

The desk that had just fallen hung upside down again. However, it obviously wasn't as high as before, merely hanging in mid-air.

After experimenting for a while, Ciel had a good understanding.

"I can currently use the complete version of Levicorpus to hang objects weighing about forty kilograms at a height of about four meters. Reducing either the wand or incantation significantly decreases the effect. If truly casting silently and wandlessly, the effect would be even weaker, probably just enough to make a young wizard suddenly fall."

He sighed slightly. "The main issue is that my magical strength is too weak. If my natural magical strength were like Harry Potter's, even wandless, silent casting would be much more powerful than my current complete casting. There's really no comparison with talent monsters..."

However, Ciel was quite satisfied with Levicorpus' effects. His gaze fell on the system panel. The text [Levicorpus (Black Iron Tier)] had already appeared.

"When this spell's level improves, perhaps it will have even more surprising performance."

Then Ciel shifted his gaze to Sectumsempra. Unlike the somewhat prankish Levicorpus, Sectumsempra truly involved the realm of dark magic.

Looking at the original Harry Potter story, there weren't many spells with greater lethality than Sectumsempra. The key difference was that unlike Unforgivable Curses, which required strong emotions like torture and killing intent, Sectumsempra had much lower requirements for such negative emotions.

When Harry first used Sectumsempra in the original story, he nearly killed Malfoy. At that time, Harry's negative emotions definitely weren't at the level of wanting to kill Malfoy.

High power, low requirements for negative emotions. Plus it could be enhanced by his Cutting Spell Enhancement. This was what Ciel was most satisfied with about Sectumsempra.

With it, Ciel finally had a proper long-range magical attack method.

After taking a deep breath, Ciel's expression became serious. His mind was also highly focused. Although Sectumsempra wasn't an extremely dangerous dark magic, and the notes mentioned no risks of backlash, he had to be extremely cautious with anything related to dark magic.

Then Ciel horizontally swept his wand, drawing a sharp arc like swinging a sword to slash.

"Sectumsempra!"

In Ciel's perception, an invisible but incredibly sharp magical power was born within him. It surged into his ash wood wand. But after a moment, nothing happened. The spell hadn't succeeded.

Ciel frowned and repeated it twice more. He was certain that both his incantation and casting gesture were completely accurate. But Sectumsempra kept failing.

After pondering for a long time, Ciel suddenly thought of a possibility. Was the invisible, sharp magical power gathering within him too weak? So weak that even with completely correct incantation and gestures, it couldn't reach the threshold for triggering Sectumsempra?

After much consideration, Ciel increasingly felt this was the most likely possibility. He shook his head. Previously, when not involving such advanced spells, his huge disadvantage in magical strength wasn't so obvious. Now, using Levicorpus and Sectumsempra, it was revealed.

But Ciel's mindset remained stable. After all, the Sprout family greenhouse was still full of Marguerites. When school started, they still had four months to mature. Now two months had passed.

By this calculation, during Christmas break, this entire greenhouse of Marguerites would all mature. When he harvested those rewards, the predicament of insufficient magical strength would be solved. With Marguerite's cultivation scale, it wasn't impossible to boost magical strength to Gold Tier or even higher in one go!

Ciel looked at the system panel again. The panel showed semi-solid, semi-transparent text [Sectumsempra (Black Iron Tier)]. Obviously, this meant Ciel had learned this ability but couldn't actually use it yet. But theoretical mastery could be improved.

Ciel nodded slightly. "This is enough. I can't slack off on practicing Sectumsempra. I can first improve my mastery, so when I harvest Marguerites during Christmas break, I can succeed immediately."

Then Ciel tried casting Sectumsempra several more times. Even having experienced it several times, each time he felt this magical power, Ciel still felt a spine-tingling sensation.

"Both being cutting spells, the magical aura of the Pruning Charm compared to Sectumsempra... there's simply no comparison."

With this sentiment arising in his heart, Ciel stepped forward to leave the Potions classroom. But just then, his steps suddenly halted. A flash of brilliance suddenly burst in his eyes.

"Wait!" he exclaimed with sudden realization. "Levicorpus was developed from some prank spells. For Sectumsempra, I didn't notice just now, but thinking in this direction now, this spell also vaguely seems to have traces of the Pruning Charm!"

His excitement grew as the pieces fell into place. "When Snape was developing Sectumsempra, according to system evaluation, his Pruning Charm mastery had definitely reached an extremely advanced level. At least Epic Tier! So would practicing Sectumsempra also benefit the Pruning Charm?"

At this time, Ciel looked at his Pruning Charm on the system panel. He realized that under this period of training, the incomparably brilliant silver luster had actually gained a trace of golden light after these few uses of Sectumsempra!

The discovery filled him with anticipation for the synergistic effects between his various magical abilities, opening new possibilities for his cultivation journey.
