Fairy Tail: Jinchuriki

Chapter 40: 40. Different Worlds

In the Celestial Spirit World, after Ultear enters it, the Spirit King himself comes to take a look at her. Ultear who is still amazed by the Celestial Spirit World is surprised by the King's sudden appearance.

"So this is the child." The gigantic Spirit King looks at the stunned Ultear.

"Yes, her name is Ultear."

"H-hello."

"Hahaha! No need to be so stiff, human child. I simply come here to check on the child that makes Layla use her family name to negotiate. Now I can see why they need time for you. I see, I see."

The Spirit King can clearly feel the powerful magic power stored inside Ultear's body.

"She really has too much magic power for her frail body. If she is an adult, then this amount of magic power won't be a problem. But she is still a child and her body hasn't developed well enough to hold such an amount. I heard that your mother has found a solution but needs time. That's why you are sent here where time flows much slower."

"Y-yes. Mommy said that I need to learn advanced magic that can affect my body. But it's difficult to find because that kind of magic has been lost from history. Alex's Guild Master said that some ancient magic books are still preserved, but they are owned by high-ranking people and it's almost impossible to obtain those books. So we need to find another book."

"Why is it almost impossible? Won't it be fine if you just ask those people to lend their books? Or maybe you can even buy them."

"That's... Mommy doesn't believe those people. A few years ago, we asked for the help of an important organization when my condition had just started happening. But they deceived us, telling mommy that I have died while they actually kidnapped me and used me as an experiment. Mommy is afraid those important people would do the same now. That's why she wants to obtain the needed magic herself."

"Hmm, many humans have always been like that, using others for their own benefits. They don't even spare children. A lot of spirits even made contracts with awful Mages that abuse them so many times."

"What?! But don't Mages and Spirits need to work together and respect each other because they are partners?"

"Did Layla tell you that?"

"Yes."

"She's right, that should be the case and her family has been doing exactly that from many generations ago. We don't care if the Mages are evil or kind. It's their business as humans. But they should treat their Spirits well. Too bad, there are Mages who treat their spirits like tools, not partners."

"T-that's horrible. Then, what are you doing to those Mages?"

"We don't do anything to them."

"What?! But they are hurting the Spirits. Aren't you the Spirit King? Then you are supposed to protect them, right?"

"My job is upholding the rule of the Spirit World. I can't involve my feelings for my job. If I do that, then the whole Spirit World will face horrible consequences. The rule stated that Spirits must follow the orders of Mages that contract them. So we can't do anything about how the Mages treat the Spirits. If we do something, it means we are breaking the rules and the consequences are unimaginable. Even bending the rules for you to be here is already too dangerous for this world."

Ultear is smart, so she understands the King's dilemma quickly. He can't help the abused spirits because it will endanger the whole Spirit World. But if he doesn't do anything, then those spirits will keep suffering until their contracts end.

"Well, little human girl. I hope you can treat the Spirits nicely. Enjoy your time here. Capricorn, make sure she is safe."

"Yes, Your Majesty."

The Spirit King leaves in a flash, leaving Ultear alone with Capricorn. Ultear is smart, so she knows that there's no way the Spirit King comes here just to meet and talk to her. What he says is also too specific to just be a small talk.

"Hey, Capricorn, are there many Spirits that get treated badly by their Mages?"

"Yes, quite a lot. There are some even among the Zodiacs."

"Gold Key Spirits are treated badly? Are their Mages idiots?"

"Unfortunately, not everyone is like Layla-sama. As the King says, some Spirit Mages only see Spirits as tools. Some only use Spirits like weapons, some use Spirits like playthings and entertainment."

"I see. Say, can I meet those Spirits?"

Meanwhile on Earthland, Ur has finally departed to find the advanced magic for Ultear. She plans to go to Alakitasia and Guiltina to look for the advanced magic because she can't find anything in Ishgar.

Ur leaves, but Alex stays in Heartfilia Konzern. He has promised Ur to watch over the family to make sure that Ultear is fine. But it's also to pay Layla's help a little because he won't just stay there, he'll also work to help them.

Layla says that Alex doesn't need to help with work and can just stay there normally. But he insists and tells her that it's normal for Mages to work. He even tells her that those who don't work don't eat, making her give up.

"I must tell you that I have quite a lot of experience and my record in the Guild is good. You can ask my Guild about it if you don't believe it." Alex is talking to Layla and Jude in their office now.

"Oh? Then what's the most dangerous job you've ever done?" Layla asks playfully.

"Hmm, that should be exterminating a small Dark Guild."

"Pfft!" Jude spits his coffee when he hears that Alex was participating in a Dark Guild extermination.

"Well, it was just a small Dark Guild that didn't have powerful Mages and I wasn't alone, so it wasn't that dangerous maybe."

"S-so that's how it is. You almost got me there. How many people that joined the extermination?" Jude asks while wiping his mouth.

"2, just me and Laxus."

*Cough Cough* Jude is surprised again.

"It was just a bandit extermination quest. Turned out, the bandit group was actually a Dark Guild. The Dark Mages were luring Legal Mages to exterminate the bandits. Legal Guilds won't send strong Mages for such a job, so they have succeeded a few times before. They always changed locations until we finally got them. Those Dark Mages were kidnapping the Legal Mages they lured to be sold as experiment subjects for Zeref Worshippers."

"And you defeated them with just 2 people?"

"Yes, they underestimated me and Laxus just because we were young. They just don't know that we are strong like adult Mages."

"Alright, alright, I understand, Alex-kun. We will give you some jobs when we need it. So this means until Ur returns, you will be Heartfilia Family's Personal Mage." Layla thinks Alex is just bragging and says it to make him stop.

"Yes, Ma'am!"

"Sigh, we don't have any jobs for you now, so go play with Lucy."

"Eh? But I can do easy jobs too if you want."

"Playing with Lucy is the job I give you for now. So go! It's an order."

"I-I see. Then I'll go to play with her."

Alex leaves the office and goes to play with Lucy as ordered. He knows they just don't want to give him any real job yet, but he can't do anything about it. They'll eventually realize his ability and give him real jobs in the future.

For now, he can only suffer by playing girly games with Lucy. She hasn't learned magic, so he can't really play magical things with her. He also can't teach her magic because he himself doesn't have much knowledge about it and can't really teach magic to others.

But he surely can show off his magic to her who is very curious about his magic. Too bad, his Shukaku transformations seem to be too scary for the young Lucy. She even cries and Shukaku is laughing while Layla tries to calm her daughter.

"Eh? But you were fine when I transformed to carry Ultear into the forest 2 weeks ago when her magic power was overflowing." The surprised Alex quickly cancels his transformation.

"*Sniff sniff* You were turning into a different creature back then. It looked cool and cute, this one looks ugly and scary."

Shukaku feels 2 arrows are stabbing his heart. His evil laugh disappears instantly and turns into a depressed sigh. His color even starts to disappear after hearing a child's honesty.

"I-I see, so it's scary, huh? But you know, Lucy, Take Over Mages like me don't choose the creatures we transform into based on their appearances. We choose them based on their power. It doesn't matter if they are ugly or have bad personalities as long as they are strong. There are more creatures that look uglier than the one you saw just now, you know."

What Alex says surely makes Lucy understand more that appearance isn't everything. But the sand raccoon looks even more depressed now. Alex unknowingly just adds more insults to the already depressed Shukaku.
