Chapter 33: This Kid, He's Something Else!

"But, Cousin, you haven't even asked for my number yet!" Liu Yifei pouted, her face filled with mock annoyance and genuine disappointment. Du Sheng avoided her gaze, quickly changing the subject. "If it's really destined, even if the crew disperses and we don't keep in touch, we'll meet again someday." "No way, you have to save my number!" Liu Yifei was unusually insistent this time, grabbing Du Sheng's hand and forcing him to input her number into his phone. "Don't forget to call me~" she reminded, satisfied once she saw the number saved. "Of course, of course," Du Sheng replied perfunctorily, but internally, he was shaking his head like mad. This little girl is so persistent. When I get back, there's no escaping a scolding from her family. And sure enough, he was right. Liu Xiaoli, who had been watching from the side, was utterly stunned. Xixi actually took the initiative to grab Du Sheng's hand! Although it seemed like an unintentional gesture, it revealed a dangerous signal—Xixi wasn't against being physically close to Du Sheng! This won't do! Xixi is only fifteen! How can she be this intimate with a boy?! Liu Xiaoli was in turmoil, unsure what to do. I have to sit her down for a serious talk when we're back at school!

After Liu Yifei's departure, the crew filmed for another two days, wrapping up the scenes in Zhejiang Province. This progress was considered swift. If not for the division into three teams (A, B, and C) and Zhang Dahuzi being too entangled with gossip scandals and promotional issues to interfere, the schedule would've been delayed by at least a third. "Three days off, regroup at Yunfu Licheng!" With Yu Min's announcement, the crew erupted into cheers. "Old Zhao, didn't you say you'd show us some local hospitality and take us to 'Three Streets'? Let's go!" Yuan Bin shouted, drawing everyone's attention. This included Ma Yaowei, Du Sheng, Ju Jueliang, and others. Zhao Jian grimaced, knowing there was no escaping this without spending big. "Alright, after we wrap up, anyone interested, let me know." Zhou Yaowen, Hu Jun, and Ling Zhiying, though tempted, ultimately declined. Although Zhang Dahuzi had declared three days off, traveling and settling in would take two days, leaving only one for relaxation. Many chose to stay back to deal with family matters, advertising shoots, or endorsement deals, watching enviously as Du Sheng and his group prepared to go out.

That evening at 8 p.m., the Ye Laixiang nightclub was lit up magnificently. Seeing the grand opening ceremony, Du Sheng immediately understood why Zhao Jian had been so generous. A massive red banner announced the promotion: Grand Opening Special: Free Drinks for All! At the turn of the millennium, Hengdian was filled with nightclubs and karaoke bars, all promising a nightlife of glitz and indulgence. But Three Streets was the crown jewel: It had the highest standards. It attracted the most women. It offered the wildest parties. No wonder it was the go-to spot for gatherings.

Inside a private karaoke room, Ju Jueliang, Yuan Bin, Zhao Jian, and Ma Yaowei all stared in surprise at Du Sheng, who had brought along two charming women. This kid—he's something else. Could it be he's so into his roles that he insists on bringing his 'attendants' everywhere? The two women, of course, were Liu Tao and Wang Yi. Feeling a bit awkward under the men's stares, Liu Tao and Wang Yi explained, "Well… we were going to go shopping, but Ah Sheng said we might as well join you all for some fun…" "No problem, the more the merrier!" Zhao Jian welcomed them warmly. With the addition of the women, the atmosphere shifted instantly. The banter that had been missing suddenly came alive. "Ah Tao, sit here." "Xiao Yi, what would you like? Soda? Red wine? Or maybe a cocktail?" "What songs do you like? Who wants to start? I'll help you pick something!" Ju Jueliang, Yuan Bin, and even Zhao Jian gestured for Ma Yaowei to move over, making space for the two women. Despite the differences in status among the crew, they were all essentially coworkers—no one held any real hierarchy here.

Faced with the group's enthusiasm, Liu Tao and Wang Yi, though reserved, eventually sat beside Du Sheng, smiling. "We're not great at singing, but we don't mind playing some games." In truth, they had their own motives for attending. Though the directors present weren't decision-makers, building connections with them could increase future opportunities for roles.

"Alright, how about Liar's Dice? Six people, roll nine dice, loser drinks half a glass!" Yuan Bin, ever the life of the party, suggested enthusiastically. Liar's Dice was a popular drinking game in Hong Kong and Macau, and mainland bars had quickly adopted it. Before the game could start, however, Ma Yaowei grabbed the microphone. "If they're not singing, I'll liven things up. Ah Sheng, cue up Li Keqin's 'Red Sun' for me!" As the music began, Ma Yaowei closed his eyes, gripping the microphone with great seriousness, as though ready to deliver a heartfelt performance. Yuan Bin, busy distributing dice cups, kindly warned the group, "Everyone, no matter what happens, you might want to cover your ears." Du Sheng and Zhao Jian exchanged puzzled glances. Before they could react, Ma Yaowei belted out: "Even if fate is filled with twists and turns, Even if fate threatens to tear you apart..." His pitch was so off-key that it sounded worse than a screeching rooster. Du Sheng nearly fell out of his chair, struggling to stay upright. Holy crap, this is deafening. He suddenly recalled the verbal duel from Stephen Chow's Justice, My Foot!—but Ma Yaowei's singing was on another level. Halfway through the song, Zhao Jian and the others were on the brink of collapse. Even Liu Tao and Wang Yi, who had been maintaining their composure, were visibly struggling to endure the auditory assault. But Ma Yaowei remained oblivious, swaying to his own off-tune masterpiece. Thankfully, the waiter arrived with the drinks. The group pounced on the distraction like drowning men grasping for a lifeline. Yuan Bin opened a bottle and poured a drink, handing it to Ma Yaowei. "Alright, Ah Wei, enough singing! Come on, let's play Liar's Dice." But Ma Yaowei, fully immersed, declared, "No, no, let me finish this song first. A job must be seen through to the end, don't you agree?" Seeing the two girls beside him suffering, Du Sheng couldn't hold back any longer. Pulling the microphone away, he quipped, "Ah Wei, we get the sentiment. Let's save the encore for next time!" Everyone else immediately chimed in, raising their glasses in agreement: "Cheers! Let's drink!" With laughter and relief, the group toasted, and the atmosphere gradually loosened up. Laughter and banter filled the room as the night

carried on.
