Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking

Chapter 642: For the already stolen treasure?

--

The moment the fruit exuded signs that it was fully matured, it was as if a bomb exploded...

Suddenly, all previous unsaid agreements were off. Everybody's inhibitions were gone, and the scramble for who could take the freshly matured Sacred Light Fruit began.

It was hectic, chaotic, and extremely brutal. And understandably so because the Sacred Light Fruit had a limited time to retain its peak freshness.

One week. The Sacred Light Fruit will stay at the peak of freshness for only one week before it starts declining. And if nobody consumed it, it would only last for a year before it became nourishment for the next fruit the Sacred Light Tree would create.

The gap between the fresh Sacred Light Fruit and one that is not was immense.

It's already stated that the Sacred Light Fruit could not only provide a one-time innate physical talent transformation but also a chance to understand Light Laws greatly.

Well, the freshly picked Sacred Light Fruit had at least a 99% chance of allowing someone to catch a glimpse of the Great Law of Light. Within the one-week period of its freshness, each day that passes, this chance is reduced by 1%, ending with 92% on its final day of freshness.

Past the point, the decline would be massive. Because from 92% at the 7th day, it would drop to an 80% chance instead. And this reduction would only continue day by day until the fruit shrivels and rots.

Six months after, if the Sacred Light Fruit is still not consumed, the effect that enhances one's latent physical talent disappears completely, which significantly drops the value of the fruit. And it would just continue to get worse the more time passed.

That's why the current scramble for the fruit was this intense. These creatures just can't ignore the allure of this treasure.

If things weren't already grim for the big ogre before, they certainly are now that the situation has come to this.

Cedric watched, still hidden from everybody, as the big ogre tried multiple times to reach out for the fruit to consume it in a single gulp, only to be stopped at every attempt by the endless horde of greedy creatures competing with it.

It wasn't just the ogre either. There were a handful of creatures who got very close to getting it, but time and time again, it was either the ogre itself that stopped them or somebody else.

The madness for the fruit was intense. Blood, guts, and gore flooded the surrounding area because of the fight.

Kudos to the big ogre, though. Because despite being severely outnumbered and limited, it's still standing. The injuries it accumulated could've killed most at this point, yet the big ogre is still alive and angry.

It's like someone injected it with steroids, because even with deep injuries, some even exposing its bones, the big ogre still swung its bone club with just as much strength as it did at its peak state.

Its vitality was truly astounding.

However, its challengers were just as determined as it was. While the majority of them might be smaller than the ogre, they had unique characteristics that posed a great problem to the ogre.

One of which was a creature called a 'Beholder.' It's a massive eye covered with pulsating veins and nerves. Its 'eyelids' have rows of fangs, too many if you ask Cedric.

Its main strength lies in its mental capabilities.

There had been many times where it subtly affected the big ogre with its mental illusions and disturbances, all in the hope of allowing it to take the fruit instead.

Cedric was fairly confident of resisting the disturbances of the Beholder, but the same couldn't be said for the poor ogre. It has been bamboozled so many times at this point. The only reason why it could break free from the illusions was because of its palpable rage and killing intent.

Another creature that posed a real challenge to the big ogre's claim was a creature Cedric dubbed the 'Snake Man,' because he had never seen official records about this creature before.

It has the head of a cobra, whose neck could extend beyond normal means, and its lower body was similar to the shape of a human. It has a muddy brown skin with translucent scales. It also has a sword and a buckler for some reason, and it wielded them with a surprising level of skill.

The deadliest aspect of the Snake Man was its venom. It's a fast-acting substance that goes straight to the squishy parts as if it's programmed to do so.

It's actually Poison Laws. And it's an agonizing torture for the big guy, because as tough as it was physically, the venom had a way of worming its way to where it's most vulnerable.

Next was a creature called a 'Void Demon Marten.' Unlike others that were either strong or had deadly characteristics, the Void Demon Marten doesn't have anything that poses a real threat to the ogre itself. But what it lacks in strength, it makes up for in speed and stealth.

Void Demon Martens had a very faint Primordial Bloodline, and they're innately gifted at Space Laws. They're extremely sensitive to the fluctuations of space and could sense threats worlds away from them. They're one of the most elusive creatures in the Primitive Universe, so much so that some don't even believe that they're real.

Cedric was actually surprised to see one. It looked adorable, especially since this one was very young. The chaotic spatial turbulence must've dragged this one away from its nest and all the way here, and it's been trapped since then. Now, it's fighting for a chance to get out.

It hasn't shown signs of sensing Cedric, though, which wasn't surprising given that it's really young.

And finally, there's this creature called the 'Luminous Demon'...

It's a strong creature that could turn into light particles at any point it pleases. But don't be mistaken, it carries the bloodline of a demon, meaning that it's not only a talented killer but also physically strong.

This one is an adult. And Cedric has seen it exchanging direct blows with the big ogre without taking a step back.

Despite knowing that demons also exist out here, Cedric wasn't too concerned. His hate and prejudice against demons has long since faded. The past was a distant matter to him. Besides, demons out here were different, or so they said. Cedric doesn't really care, though.

But if there's a creature here who's just as desperate, if not even more desperate, to get the Sacred Light Fruit except the big ogre, it would certainly be this Luminous Demon.

Its name was a dead giveaway at this point. This demon is all about light, the Laws of Light, more specifically.

The Luminous Demon was actually one of the first creatures who arrived here as soon as the Sacred Light Fruit released its preliminary signs of maturing. Cedric guessed that it must've felt an innate connection with the tree and it's been controlled by its instincts and desires from that point.

What's even more incredible is that, at first, the Luminous Demon was actually way worse than the big ogre. In their first clash, it suffered a great loss and even nearly died. Yet its powerful tenacity and its demonic bloodline refused to stay down.

Its desire to get the Scared Light Fruit, and maybe the tree itself too, was too great to be ignored. So much so that it even caused its latent potential to explode, allowing it to grow immensely in a span of hours.

Cedric could even sense that it's overdrafting its longevity just for this. And it wasn't too surprising because no other treasure suited the Luminous Demon more than the Sacred Light Fruit. If it consumes the fruit, it will truly evolve into something else. And that desire was all too consuming and domineering, so it's causing miracles to happen.

At this point, it has earned the right to compete with the big ogre for the Sacred Light Fruit.

There were more challengers here, but most of them aren't as competitive as the ones mentioned earlier. It's these four that the big ogre truly struggled with.

But despite being outnumbered and outskilled, the ogre was simply too strong, too tenacious, and too angry to fall. It's incredible how it still hasn't fallen after everything it went through.

Cedric watched all of this with an amused smile on his face, still remaining hidden and unseen by all.

He wanted to see who'd come out on top of this battle.

But as hours passed, Cedric grew increasingly bored. At some point, the intense fight became too dull.

And so, with a sigh, Cedric shook his head in disappointment and left. He's no longer interested in the outcome of that fight since he already knew that it would be a tie between the ogre and the demon.

Alas, those two would later figure out that their fight was all for naught.

Because apparently, at some point during the intense, chaotic, and brutal fight, both the tree and fruit had already been stolen.

All they're fighting for was just a mere projection of the treasure. One that would fade about a week from now.
