Douluo: My power increases in Two levels

Chapter 15: Chapter 15 - 700 Years Ago

Qian Renxue flew low through the forest, gracefully gliding through the trees with Han Feng in tow. Her lips curled into a subtle smile as she asked,

"Han Feng, tell me—what is a defensive-type Soul Master most afraid of? "

Though confused, Han Feng still answered seriously.

"If Sister Qian Qian is talking about Soul Masters, then definitely control types. No matter how strong a defense-type's abilities are, once they're locked down by a control-type, they can't protect their teammates. Without a way to break free, they'll just get worn down and defeated."

Qian Renxue raised her eyebrows in surprise, casting a thoughtful glance at the boy.

He was only eight and a half… yet his understanding was so sharp!

Han Feng grinned proudly. His father was a Defense-type Soul Sect, and the Han family had long specialized in the defense path. Their legacy of understanding defensive combat could rival—even surpass—that of high-level Soul Sages.

Qian Renxue, though impressed, didn't praise him. She knew Han Feng well—one compliment and he'd start soaring with pride.

Besides, she herself had already finished reading all the classics in the Spirit Hall by age thirteen—and did she go around bragging?

"That's right," she said evenly.

"Defense-types fear control-types the most. Unlike power-type Soul Masters who can brute-force their way through most situations, defense types have limited offensive capabilities. Once bound by a controller, they're helpless. Add in their generally slow movement speed, and it's nearly impossible to dodge control skills."

She looked him over with a knowing glance.

"If I'm not wrong… your speed isn't exactly stellar among your peers, is it? "

Han Feng nodded sheepishly. He had to admit—he wasn't fast. Even a newly awakened agility-type Soul Master could outpace him using their innate spirit advantage.

Seeing him acknowledge it, Qian Renxue smiled—a smile so radiant it made the flowers pale in comparison.

This time, Han Feng didn't miss it. He stared at her in a daze, a goofy grin forming on his face.

She smacked him lightly on the head and scolded with a laugh.

"You little perv! "

He chuckled but didn't argue.

"Your Flame Shield does give you an edge," Qian Renxue continued, "especially with its fire-control ability—it gives you more offensive options than most defense types. Plus, it naturally counters plant-type Spirits. But… you still have that major flaw."

"Ugh! Sister Qian Qian, just tell me already! "

Han Feng couldn't wait any longer. Qian Renxue was analyzing his spirit again, and he wanted answers.

She smiled mysteriously.

"You think I made big promises without having real plans? "

"The Soul Beast I've chosen for you—if you're lucky—could completely overturn the conventional wisdom about defense-types being weak to control! "

Her voice was filled with pride, and Han Feng felt his blood surge with excitement.

"What kind of Soul Beast?! " he blurted out.

But Qian Renxue didn't answer. She simply pulled him through the trees, landing on a large branch. With a wink, she pushed aside the leaves.

"See for yourself."

Skeptical, Han Feng followed her gaze… and immediately froze.

A hulking black silhouette, the size of a wild ox, was darting through the forest at blinding speed. Even with his sharp eyes, Han Feng couldn't make out its form.

Loud thuds echoed in the woods—boom! Boom! Boom!

Clearly, it had incredible strength as well.

He swallowed hard.

"What is that? It's… so fast! "

Qian Renxue chuckled.

"It's a 700-year-old Rampaging Rhino. Thick-skinned, massive defense, monstrous strength—and while it doesn't have elemental abilities, its speed surpasses even many agility types at the same level."

Han Feng's eyes lit up with realization.

"So that means…"

"Exactly," Qian Renxue nodded, smiling.

"If luck is on your side, the soul skill you receive could grant you greater strength and defense—and the one thing defense-types rarely have: speed."

What Han Feng didn't know was that this Rampaging Rhino was specially bred and hidden by Spirit Hall, meant for training elite disciples. Even most sub-hall leaders didn't know of its existence.

If it weren't for Qian Renxue pulling some strings… a rare Soul Beast like this would've never gone to someone like Han Feng.

Oblivious to all that, Han Feng was already sold.

"Sister Qian Qian~"

He latched onto her arm, his voice sticky sweet. That one phrase was drawn out with nine twists and eighteen turns, enough to give anyone a toothache.

But Qian Renxue just giggled and ruffled his hair.

"Don't worry. This is your second Soul Ring—specially prepared by your sister."

Han Feng beamed. His big eyes locked onto her as he said, word by word:

"Sister Qian Qian, I love you! "

She pinched his nose with a laugh.

"Save that for your mother—and give some to your father too, or he'll feel left out! "

With that, she dropped into the forest. Snow-white wings unfurled from her back, keeping her suspended midair.

"Be careful, Sister Qian Qian! "Han Feng called from the branch.

Below, the Rampaging Rhino zipped around her like a blur. Han Feng watched nervously.

After all, she had said her Soul Sect level was artificially induced with medicine and that she wasn't very strong in real combat. Could she handle such a fast opponent?

Clearly, Han Feng underestimated her.

She didn't even activate her Soul Rings.

Her golden eyes suddenly gleamed with divine light—her entire presence became holy and untouchable.

Under this pressure, the Rampaging Rhino suddenly froze as if gripped by an invisible hand—completely immobilized.

What Han Feng couldn't see was the fear in the rhino's eyes as it stared at Qian Renxue.

Six-Winged Angel—a divine-level Beast Spirit, among the strongest in existence. Its presence alone was more than enough to subdue a mere hundred-year-old Soul Beast.

After knocking the rhino unconscious with just a flicker of her spiritual power, Qian Renxue retracted her aura and wings.

Han Feng, still on the branch, was stunned.

Was this really what a Soul Sect could do?

Why was Sister Qian Qian so powerful while Han Dang couldn't even handle a 400-year-old Lavahorn Turtle?

Was it because Han Dang had been a henpecked husband too long and lost his edge?

Han Feng didn't know. Thanks to Qian Renxue and Han Dang's wildly different performances, his understanding of Soul Master strength was forever muddled.

"What are you waiting for? Come down already! "

Snapping out of his thoughts, Han Feng jumped down from the branch.

He looked at the unconscious Rampaging Rhino and asked in disbelief:

"That's it? It's over? "

Qian Renxue rolled her eyes.

"What, did you expect me to fight it for three hundred rounds? "
