Chapter 199: Father and Son Turn Against Each Other, The End of Tang Hao
Slaughter City was located in the northeastern border of the Heaven Dou Empire, while Holy Soul Village lay in the southeastern part, near the Fasno Province by the Star Dou Great Forest.
After traveling for several months across the entire empire, Tang Shan finally arrived at the mountain forest not far behind Holy Soul Village. The forest was dense with trees and overgrown with weeds. Since no one had passed through in a long time, the original forest trail had long been swallowed by nature.
Following the path in her memory, Tang Shan advanced steadily until she reached Tang Hao's dwelling—the cave behind the waterfall where the Blue Silver Empress was once hidden.
The Star Dou Mountain Range stretched for millions of li, encompassing the entire Star Dou Great Forest like a natural fortress for soul beasts. One of its branches abruptly ended just outside Holy Soul Village, forming a steep hundred-meter-high cliff. From the rocky face, torrents of water surged down endlessly, giving rise to the waterfall that concealed the Blue Silver Empress.
Standing by the pool outside the falls, Tang Shan leapt effortlessly into the air like a bird, passing through the curtain of cascading water and landing inside the cave beyond.
Through the soft light filtering in from the waterfall, Tang Shan gradually saw the scene within. After all these years, the once narrow cave had been expanded several times by Tang Hao. Though still crude, it now resembled the Water Curtain Cave of the Monkey King, with a stone bed and stone chairs scattered about.
Tang Hao stirred on the stone bed and looked toward the entrance in a daze. "Xiao San, you're back? I didn't expect you to complete Slaughter City's hundred victories so quickly. Did you obtain the Death God Domain? Why can't I sense any killing intent from you?"
Tang Shan glanced at the pile of bones in the corner of the cave, their stench faint but foul. With a respectful tone, she replied, "Father, I completed the hundred victories in Slaughter City, but for some reason, I didn't get the Death God Domain. Instead, I obtained the Rakshasa Domain."
"Rakshasa Domain?"
Tang Shan nodded. "Yes. The Rakshasa Domain condenses inner rage to strengthen oneself and weaken the enemy. It's quite powerful."
"Killing intent, rage?" Tang Hao yawned and grabbed a jug of cloudy liquor, drinking deeply before muttering indifferently, "Xiao San, the effects of those two domains are about the same. The Rakshasa Domain is fine too. Now that your strength is established, you can consider returning to the Clear Sky School to acknowledge your lineage."
"Then Father, does that mean my training with you is over?"
"I've already taught you all of the Clear Sky School's secret arts. You've earned yourself a domain through Slaughter City. I'm just a Soul Douluo now. What more can I give you? Go to the Clear Sky School. Say you're Tang Hao's son. In this world, personal strength isn't enough. A sect is your greatest backing..."
Tang Shan stood silently as Tang Hao spoke. Only now did she truly realize—her father, once the legendary invincible Clear Sky Douluo, was now just a crippled Soul Douluo. Meanwhile, she had endured countless trials and reached the peak of the Soul Emperor realm. The gap between them was nearly gone.
"Xiao San, why are you just standing there? Hurry to the Clear Sky School and find your uncle," Tang Hao urged impatiently as he struggled to sit up. "Go on now. I'd offer you a hot meal, but I've no ingredients left."
Tang Shan lowered her gaze. Her pale hands folded behind her back. "Father, I've grown up, and you've grown old. Just like when I was young, let me cook you one last meal."
Though Tang Hao now looked like a beggar, he was once the Clear Sky Douluo, a Death God who survived a hundred victories. He immediately sensed the shift in her killing intent. "Xiao San, I appreciate your filial piety. But what's most important now is overcoming the influence of Slaughter City. Keep growing. Become a Titled Douluo soon."
"You're afraid because you've grown old?" Tang Shan's eyes snapped open, crimson and violent.
Now that she had learned the Clear Sky techniques and gained the Rakshasa Domain from Slaughter City, the crippled Tang Hao had no further value. But if she could acquire the soul bones on his body, she might ascend even further...
"Xiao San, think carefully. Don't make a mistake."
"I've thought it through. Father, when we fled Spirit Hall years ago, you deliberately exposed Xiao Wu's identity, didn't you? You knew how I felt about her, yet you exposed her just to spite Yu Tianming. She died because of you!!"
Tang Hao closed his eyes in anguish. "I revealed Xiao Wu's identity hoping others would fight Yu Tianming for her. In the chaos, she might have survived…"
"You're lying!" Tang Shan's voice sharpened. "Mother had long passed the infant stage of her transformation. How could she be discovered so easily? Wasn't it all part of your scheme, just to get a hundred-thousand-year spirit ring?"
Truth cuts deeper than lies. Her words were knives stabbing Tang Hao's heart. His drowsy eyes snapped open like a beast's. A dark hammer appeared in his hand. "Xiao San, it's my failure as a father that raised such a traitor."
"What kind of father were you? I've been taking care of you all these years." Several amethyst-blue Silver Grass tendrils curled under her feet. "You betrayed Mother and Xiao Wu. You've already earned your death."
Before her words faded, a cluster of tiny hidden weapons shot from behind her back in a bizarre pattern, their speed and precision nearly invisible in the dim cave. A typical Soul Douluo would've died on the spot.
But Tang Hao wasn't ordinary. A former Titled Douluo, his Death God Domain erupted as he swung his hammer. The hidden weapons clanged against the cave walls, deflected by his brute force.
"So this is the Death God Domain you've trained for years?" Tang Shan's voice was calm, her pupils blood-red. Her Rakshasa Domain exploded forth and instantly crushed Tang Hao's domain into nothingness.
The Death God Domain of an unascended human was no match for the Rakshasa Domain infused with nearly all of Slaughter City's divine power.
Tang Hao no longer hesitated. His Clear Sky Hammer expanded dramatically and came crashing down toward Tang Shan within the confined space.
"You've already lost, Father." Tang Shan smiled coldly, leapt out of the cave before the hammer fell, and triggered several toxic black clouds. A pungent, sweet-smelling mist instantly filled the air.
Though he had no legs, Tang Hao could still dominate in close quarters. But in the open, Tang Shan could maneuver freely, and victory would slip from his grasp. Yet under the cloud of poison, he was forced to leap out after her.
Only a few seconds apart, they exited the cave almost together. By the pool outside the waterfall, a field of amethyst-dark Blue Silver Grass blanketed the land. The terrain resembled hair growing from the earth, swaying gently in the wind.
"Great Sumeru Hammer!"
Blood at his lips, Tang Hao's hammer swelled once more, its black surface turning crimson. In the blink of an eye, it crashed toward Tang Shan like a falling mountain.
Soul Devouring Spikes, Blue Silver Blood Armor, Blue Silver Berserk, Rakshasa Domain—Tang Shan's soul rings flashed like warning lights. The Blue Silver Grass thickened, dark purple bleeding into deep red, as countless tendrils bent and wrapped around her like a budding flower.
Seeing this, Tang Hao only smiled faintly through his bleeding lips and brought the hammer down with all his might.
Boom—!
A deafening explosion rang out. The few remaining elderly villagers in Holy Soul Village looked toward the mountains. By the waterfall, the earth split. Blue Silver Grass shattered. A massive crater hundreds of meters wide appeared. Water slowly flowed in, forming what would soon become a new pond.
Yet despite his devastating blow, Tang Hao's expression darkened further.
"You've fallen too far, Father. You're no longer the legend that was the Clear Sky Douluo. Relying too much on sensing killing intent was your downfall." A soft voice rose behind him. Outside the crater, a lithe figure emerged from the Blue Silver Grass.
As Tang Shan reappeared, the amethyst-black grass surged like a tide toward the blood-spewing Tang Hao…
—
In the Douluo Continent, it was well-known that control-type Soul Masters countered power-type ones. Many power-types, in the pursuit of pure offense, abandoned mobility in favor of offense-focused spirit rings. As a result, they became easy prey for controllers.
Tang Hao, from the Clear Sky School, was no exception. Every one of his spirit rings enhanced strength to amplify his Great Sumeru Hammer. When he had legs, he could offset this flaw with techniques and movement. But now, with no mobility, he was a sitting duck.
—
'As expected of a former Titled Douluo. One life force is worth dozens of twenty- or thirty-ranked Soul Masters. Now let's see what soul bones I got.'
Half a stick of incense later, Tang Shan opened her eyes from within the cocoon of Blue Silver Grass. Having drained countless fallen Soul Masters in Slaughter City and now Tang Hao's life, she had ascended to rank 70—just one ring away from Soul Saint.
She walked toward Tang Hao's corpse, wrapped in the dark Blue Silver Grass. At her thought, the thorned tendrils pulled away, dragging off dried flesh and hair, revealing a skeleton with most of the flesh gone.
Tang Shan bent down and began collecting the soul bones, cleaning off the blood and gristle as she went, a cruel smile forming on her lips.
"Right arm bone—over twenty thousand years. Not bad."
"Torso bone—at least eighty thousand years. Nearly hundred-thousand-year quality. This will help if I switch to the Clear Sky Hammer."
"Skull—over fifty thousand years. Good quality, but I already have an eighty-thousand-year Wrathful Blue Silver Berserk skull bone. This will make a good gift for my uncle."
As she picked up each piece, her smile grew ever brighter. "Now all I need is a quiet place to absorb them, and one suitable spirit beast. I'll be a Soul Douluo soon…"
—
Months later, Tang Shan, now a Soul Douluo, arrived at a village no different from Holy Soul Village.
Located three hundred li east of Heaven Dou City, it was nestled in the mountains. Smoke curled from chimneys. It was nearly lunchtime. Children played at the entrance, while farmers finished their work and returned home.
Unfolding the sheepskin map left behind by Tang Hao, Tang Shan carefully confirmed her destination. Without the map, she never would have guessed that the once-greatest sect in the continent—the Clear Sky School—was now hidden here.
'Has the continent's number one sect fallen this far?'
She stashed the map and strode toward the unremarkable village. A strange sadness welled up inside her. Once, the Clear Sky School had stood at the peak of the Soul Master world. Now it had been reduced to hiding in a remote mountain village. Could such a sect truly support her future?
Just as she neared the village, several tall villagers returning from the fields stopped her.
"Young lady, please leave. Outsiders are not welcome here." Their grips tightened around their tools, feet shifting slightly, clearly preparing to surround her.
Tang Shan slowly raised her left hand. Black light surged from her palm. A heavy pressure filled the air as the Clear Sky Hammer silently appeared. "I am no outsider. I'm from the Clear Sky School as well. I've come to recognize my ancestors and return to my clan."
