Douluo Dalu 3: Purple-Gold Dragon God

Chapter 120: Chapter 120: The True Meaning of the Ninth Test

"Ahhh!"

"What the hell are you yelling for!"

Gu You wiped the sweat from his forehead. 'If anyone outside heard this, I'd never be able to explain it!' Thankfully, the divine power barrier was still active — not even the two Emperor Auspicious Beasts could hear a thing.

He wasn't attacking Tang Wulin's spiritual sea or anything. He was simply reclaiming the portions of power he had previously released when unlocking two of Tang Wulin's seals. The remaining seals would be dealt with later — after all, even a fragment of Tang San's divine consciousness held god-king-level spiritual power. The fact that Tang San hadn't stepped in to stop him already was a miracle.

Still, Gu You had his own ways of handling such situations. The first two seals were, put simply, just a tiny tip of the Golden Dragon King's power. But even so, its destruction effect was impressive — Golden Dragon King destruction wasn't just extreme destruction; it was god-level destruction. If Gu You absorbed it, maybe his own extreme destruction power would evolve significantly.

But all that could wait until after the absorption was done. The Golden Dragon King's power had already seeped into Tang Wulin's bloodline — if you put it in forging terms, there were "impurities" that needed to be refined.

And what could refine it? Of course, divine power. Ordinary people couldn't withstand divine power; even a touch could shatter them. But Gu You's divine power was different — it could be harmonized and balanced, essentially used one-to-one as soul power or life force.

Gu You grabbed Tang Wulin's arm, purple light flashing in his eyes. Streams of golden light began flowing out of Tang Wulin's body and into Gu You's.

Tang Wulin, overwhelmed and drained, had already passed out. In his last conscious moments, he still couldn't understand: how did Gu You know that his parents had been taken away? After this, he truly hated Gu You — yet he also knew deep down that the fault had been his own.

'If Gu You can help me find my parents, I'll be grateful for life. But if he's involved with the ones who took them… I'll never stop until we're enemies to the death. Even if I can't win, I'll give everything to hurt him.'

Through this ordeal, Tang Wulin had also begun to feel deep resentment toward Old Tang.

The absorption went smoothly. Gu You could feel the imbalance inside himself — the destructive aura was about to catch up with his annihilation aura.

Suddenly, a beam of blue light surged from Tang Wulin's chest, shining like the flowing sea, scattering Gu You's divine power.

Gu You frowned. 'Not Tang San intervening — it's Tang Wulin's divine bloodline, the Sea God bloodline.'

'Fine, let's turn up the pressure and see how much divine power you can resist.'

Gu You slapped a palm onto Tang Wulin's chest. Instantly, streams of golden light erupted. A golden glow flashed in the corner of Gu You's eyes, his aura turning fierce, almost slipping out of control — until the absorption was finally complete.

Gu You let out a long breath. His heart still churned violently; the Golden Dragon King's power was having an effect. That strange tendency for rage — no wonder the Dragon God had often lost his temper in ancient times.

The divine power barrier dissipated. Gu You, holding the limp Tang Wulin, appeared before the two Auspicious Beasts.

"Time's up. Now, your answer," Gu You said to the Emperor Auspicious Beast.

"I agree. Thank you for saving my child. She is everything to me," the Emperor Beast replied. Its form turned into golden light, merging into Gu You's spiritual sea. The little Emperor Beast chirped twice at Gu You, then also fused into him.

"At last… it's done," Gu You sighed deeply. The blood-energy barrier he had formed cracked and collapsed.

"Is… is he okay?" Xie Xie asked, feeling lost. He couldn't even understand why Tang Wulin had changed so drastically.

Gu You didn't answer. Instead, he tossed Tang Wulin into Xie Xie's arms. "Once we're out, take him to Shrek Academy's medical ward. Maybe they can save his life."

As soon as he finished speaking, everything around them went dark. No one knew how much time passed outside.

When the darkness faded and the metallic drawers slid open, the group all sat up at the same time.

Clap, clap, clap!

Gu You turned his head and saw Shen Yi, her eyes filled with genuine admiration and praise — gone was the disdainful arrogance she'd shown when they first met.

"You actually created the Auspicious Beast?" Cai Yue'er asked, rising from her seat with her cane.

"Sort of. But its overall energy is still not entirely stable. It can move around inside my spiritual sea, though, so I'd call that a success," Gu You replied. He didn't reveal that he had truly made it real — that secret couldn't be exposed yet, at least not until he had a soul core.

Cai Yue'er nodded. 'If it's fake, that's best. If it were real, it would shake the entire world.' She trusted Gu You somewhat. "I'll wait for you at the final test," she added, giving Tang Wulin one last glance.

"This child… forget it. Let him continue. Let's count it as our debt to Zhang Kong."

With that, Cai Yue'er tapped her cane and slowly left the room.

Next, it was Shen Yi's turn to speak.

"I've been overseeing exams at this academy for some years. I myself passed these ten assessments, just like you. Perhaps you don't know: what you just faced was the highest-level version of the ninth test, with the greatest difficulty. This test was designed to evaluate your patience, your survival skills — but most importantly, your moral character."

"I'm sorry I deceived you earlier, but it was necessary to keep things fair — because he was participating alongside you." She gave a meaningful glance toward Gu You.

"No matter how powerful a soul master is, if they don't have a heart that is righteous, kind, and fair, then their strength will only become a destructive force to society, to the Federation. And Shrek Academy will never train such a person," she said, looking deeply at Tang Wulin.

"When faced with temptation — a soul ring or soul bone as rare as the Auspicious Beast's — who would claim ownership? I've seen countless teams who, at this stage, reveal their true nature. They become selfish, fighting each other, even betraying their teammates, only to ultimately fall into darkness."

"Your performance surprised me. Even when greed appeared, in the end, you restrained yourselves and spared that small life. That alone shows your rare worth. As your examiner, I award you full marks — except Tang Wulin."

Upon hearing her words, Xie Xie felt a wave of relief. Thank goodness he'd kept his heart steady and hadn't done anything foolish.

Xu Xiaoyan's eyes grew more determined — this ordeal had made her grow the most.

"I hereby announce: you don't need to take the tenth test. You may directly enter the academy. Xie Xie, right? Take that boy to the medical ward. If you don't know where it is, use the soul guide communicator to navigate. It's about half an hour's walk."

No more tests?

The three of them turned to Gu You, amazed…
