Born With A Divine System

Chapter 48: A NEW WORLD

At the edge of an endless grassland, a single man was present. He was in a deep slumber, when all of a sudden he awoke.

Grass and leaves rustled, as sweat slid off his face. His majestic black hair was in disarray, while his breaths were ragged.

I grabbed my head as it ached, trying to soothe the pain.

"What was that?"

[It seems your soul strayed much farther away from conceptual reality than before]

"So what I saw…"

[Was the first great war]

I sat there awestruck, unable to believe what I saw was possible.

"They're all so damn… incredible!"

He stood up, stretching his muscles and putting on a brand new set of black clothing.

"Let's see what they're up to." He said, leaving the cover of the bushes.

Past the outskirts of the grassy planes, in stark contrast was a desert land. But despite its barren nature, it still housed incredible lifeforms.

Behemoths ruled the lands. With flattened feet large enough to squash tanks, and legs as thick as armored trucks; these beasts were practically gods of this world.

Their necks protruded outward, being just as thick as their legs. With two eyes on each side of their skull, and a mouth that opened up into three sections, they were adept at digging through the sand. Their tails bore two thousand ton heavy shells at the very ends, making it more akin to a sledgehammer.

Last but certainly not least, their bodies were clad in thick, brown armor, that covered it from head to toe. A nearly impenetrable shell.

"Oh, so this is what you were up to."

As Zephyr emerges from the bushes, two golden knights pay their respects. One sports a sword and adorns medieval armor; while the other simply held a crossbow.

"Now you two, just watch and-"

Yawning mid-sentence he goes on.

"Firstly, they have great hearing, so we need to be quiet."

He makes a simple gesture, as if commanding the world itself to be quiet. And in an instant he vanished from their side, appearing mid-air beside one of the beasts.

"SECONDLY, THEIR ARMOR LEAVES NO WEAK SPOTS!" He yells, seeing this more as a pastime than anything else.

Suddenly startled, the creature swung it's massive tail at him.

"Thirdly, the most important thing in a fight is absolute domination."

He gives a light chuckle.

Using one arm, he blocked the swing. The shockwave alone turning the sand molten and then incinerating it.

'These guys really are powerful'

As I grab hold of the shell, it cracks then shatters under the pressure. And effortlessly, I flip it over, bashing the beast into the ground with tremendous force.

This act got the attention of the rest of the herd, stampeding their massive bodies towards my direction.

"The more the merrier! The last two days have been boring as fxck."

"STOP!!!" Someone yells from a distance.

And as the dust settles, we see a humanoid insect.

She stands tall, her exoskeleton a smooth, bone-white armor that gleams under sunlight. Her sharp angular face was almost human in its symmetry, but her glowing red eyes proved otherwise. She had thin, twitching antennae that shifted subtly, surveying the environment, and her frame was lean, with two strong arms that ended in clawed hands on each side of her body.

Behind her, a long, flattened tail arched over her back like a scorpion's stinger, tipped with jagged edges all over.

She carried a makeshift basket filled with chopped wood, and seemed almost out of breath.

"Please don't harm the Aethelgard." She pleads.

I raise my hand, and an invisible force holds down the rest of the beasts.

"You're an actual alien?" I asked curiously.

She drops her basket, the wood scattering all over the ground.

"I think that applies to you in this context. But how are you understanding me?" She questions.

"Let's just say I am fluent in all languages."

[Decent cover story, it absolutely won't lead to more questions being asked]

'You're not helping'

"Could you please let go of it's tail now?" She said insistently.

"Oh, right."

In no time at all, the behemoth was back on it's feet, calming the rest of the herd, which Zephyr subsequently released.

"What makes them so important anyway?" He asked, genuinely ignorant.

"Well I don't know what it means to you, foreigner, but they're the guardians of this world."

"Guardians?"

"The Aethelgard are the original rulers of the world, and we the Krilathis are merely under their protection."

"Protection from what though?"

At that very moment the skies thundered, turning a shade of lapis. Winds bellowed unnaturally, storms formed hastily, and the Aethelgard revolted against the chilling force.

"The Frostvales."

From the heavens descended two ships. Their nozzles were pyramid shaped, and they had flat, rectangular wings positioned adjacent to each other.

The Aethelgard herd charged forward, swinging their tails at full speed with city-leveling force. The ships, however, easily avoided the attacks, weaving through the air to outmaneuver the giants.

The air heated up with each swing of their tails, and the earth shattered under the force. Soon turning the inhospitable desert to a hellish wasteland.

But as time passed, the true intentions of the pilots became clear. The entire group was focused on one ship, while the other slipped away. Charging a single devastating attack, a beam of concentrated cold Qi that was aimed at the herd. Ready to obliterate the giants in an instant.

[Would you like to do something?]

'Yeah, but it isn't really my problem. I have a goal to achieve, and it'll never happen if I stop every conflict that I happen to see'

As I was about to leave, my gaze fell on the alien. She was frozen in place, trembling in the face of doom.

"Bullshit. How could I ever think like that?"

The blast launched, accelerating at light speed towards the herd. And as it reached them, suddenly… nothing happened?

"What the-"

"Oi, you bastards don't really think you can get away with this do you?" I asked a self-indulgent grin plastered all over my face.

Then I revealed my left arm. Frozen to the very core, it chipped, then shattered into a million pieces.

"Now that's interesting, and impressive."

'How does cold Qi work anyway?'

[Cold Qi is a technique of sorts, which extracts energy from a target area. It works by the creation of multiple energy negative locations around a certain point. In response to this, creation tries to restore balance to these unnatural energy vacuums, drawing in any and all energy away from the surroundings]

'So by abusing that property, they can basically force the universe to remove energy from where it's meant to be'

[Precisely]

"I've got to admit, Aris was ingenious. Too bad his descendants couldn't be more creative with their powers."

Suddenly Zephyr was forced out of his little world.

"BOY, WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT BUSINESS YOU HAVE HERE, BUT THIS PLANET HAS BEEN MARKED FOR CLAIM BY THE FROSTVALE EMPIRE! LEAVE THIS MATTER AT ONCE OR DIE ALONGSIDE THESE CRETINS!!!" One pilot yelled over the speakers.

"You know what? I was going to give you guys a minute to apologize and leave peacefully, but now you get ten seconds."

The other ship flew over and joined the first, as the Aethelgard stopped their attack. Instead choosing to observe the actions of this foreigner.

"Can you believe this kid?"

"10"

"Right? After getting his bloody arm frozen off, he still thinks he can play hero."

"9"

"How about we teach him lesson he won't forget, even in the afterlife."

"8"

"We can get rid of both him and any other life on the planet in one fell swoop."

"7"

At that moment, both pilots charged up their weapons to the maximum.

"6"

"This is what happens when you go against the empire."

"5"

"Enjoy an icy death!"

"4"

Zephyr raised a single finger.

"3"

A single manifestation of deathly chaos emerged, a sphere of pure demonic energy engulfed by the violet flames of hell. An attack that reduces anything below it's master to absolute nothingness.

"2"

The Frostvales fired their beam of cold Qi.

"1"

The nature of the technique acted like negative energy drawing in and practically nullifying any Qi that it faced. But what could an attack that drains energy do, against a force of nature spawned from the very concept of death.

"0"

"Void Blast."

And with a simple gesture, the single point expanded into a sphere of pure destructive force. Launched forward it blasted through the cold Qi, completely overpowering the beams.

"I-Impos-"

Within a fraction of a microsecond, at speeds light couldn't reach, it connected. Their ships were entirely engulfed, obliterated and leaving nothing behind as the sphere drifted farther and farther away, before completely dissipating.

[It seems those attacks of theirs drew out quite a bit of energy]

"Yeah, that's a pretty cool power."

The Aethelgard seeing the situation properly handled take their leave, the environment was now far too cold for them to dwell in.

"W-Wh-What?" She stutters, nearly collapsing to the ground.

"You alright?" Zephyr asks, reaching to her with his left arm.

She flinches backwards, out of fear, shock, or maybe both.

"Your… arm? It's healed."

"Oh yeah, attacks like those aren't enough to do any real damage." He speaks confidently, with a childlike smile.

"Well now you owe me an explanation."

She grabs his arm, pulling herself up.

"I'm Sylkra by the way, you?"

"Zephyr. Though my sister pronounces it as Zefire." He responds.

"Well then, Zephyr. Would you like to come see my village? As thanks for saving this world."

"Sure, why not?"

And soon he finds himself on a journey to an alien settlement. Meanwhile two of his knights stay hidden in whatever remains of the grassland, utterly confused on what they're to do now.
