Although the treasure chest Ren got from Miko was only B-Rank, he gained something very useful from it—Hand-to-Hand Combat Mastery—a skill he previously lacked since he focused mainly on swordsmanship and hadn't found time to learn karate or other bare-hand fighting arts.
The system's abilities were amazing because they didn't just implant knowledge in his mind, but also in his body and soul as muscle memory, making it seem like he had been training in hand-to-hand combat for many years.
In truth, Ren didn't care about the treasure chest at first because he was going to help Miko regardless, since she was his childhood friend and dear to his heart. Giving up on her was impossible. The treasure chest was just a pleasant, unexpected surprise.
"System, can you help me fully recover my past life memories?" Ren asked with curiosity and some hope, as his past memories were very blurry and unclear, and it was annoying to be constantly attacked by unclear images.
But the faint hope quickly drowned because the system completely ignored his question as if it hadn't heard it. Ren knew the system was just a program without any real intelligence to answer or interact with him, but he couldn't help but feel some hope. Unfortunately, disappointment came swiftly.
Seeing no response from the system, Ren exhaled in frustration and stopped by a vending machine. He put money in and pressed the button for MAX power—a sweet drink even stronger than red bean juice.
He opened a can of MAX coffee, steam rising from the hot sweet drink that revitalizes tired and frustrated people, and took a big gulp.
"Hmm~ I feel alive again," muttered Ren with a satisfied groan. His love for MAX power was as strong as Hikigaya's in his own class.
Ren walked all the way home, enjoying the effects of the MAX coffee in his hands, his thoughts wandering around Urahara and the old man at home. It was clear that his family lineage was not so simple, and Urahara seemed connected to it too.
"I think it's almost time to have a conversation with the old man at home," muttered Ren as he tossed the empty MAX can into the trash and continued toward the upscale neighborhood where his large, spacious house with its clinic was located.
Boom!
Boom!
Pang!
"What is that spiritual power...?" Upon hearing the booming sounds from near his house and feeling a strong pressure of spiritual energy, Ren frowned and without hesitation, his body dashed like a cheetah toward the house.
His house wasn't far, only two streets away, and with his speed, it took less than a minute to arrive. His eyes caught a grotesque creature standing in the middle of the street with Ichigo and an injured girl in front of it. Nearby, Yuzu lay on the ground, her body stained with blood.
"Karin!!" Ren shouted anxiously and frantically as he rushed toward his wounded younger sister, his eyes locking onto Ichigo and the girl in a black yukata who was holding her sword against Ichigo's chest.
Seeing this, Ren nearly lost his mind—not only was his sister bleeding, but his twin brother was about to be stabbed by a strange girl who didn't seem to intend to resist. In fact, he was helping her guide the sword to his chest.
"Ichigo... what the hell are you doing?!" Ren yelled angrily, his red eyes burning with rage and sorrow.
Although Ren hadn't noticed, his emotional state had greatly affected his spiritual power, causing a golden aura to radiate beneath his skin as if trying to break free, but something was restraining it.
But Ren didn't notice that; all his focus was on his family as he charged toward Ichigo, trying to stop his foolish act.
Even though Ichigo heard Ren's voice and saw him rushing at him, he didn't react much and tightened his grip on the sword, plunging it into his chest without hesitation.
"My name is Kurosaki Ichigo," Ichigo's calm voice echoed as he stabbed himself.
"..." Ren stared wide-eyed at the scene, rooted to the spot, unable to comprehend what was happening as his foolish twin brother willingly stabbed himself with a sword as if imitating some kind of final boss in a story.
Boom!
Suddenly, a powerful explosion erupted from where Ichigo stood, pushing back everything, including Fishbone D, who was watching Ichigo and Rukia with amusement.
The explosion roared fiercely, the street filled with thick dust and a brilliant blue light radiating from Ichigo's body. The sword disappeared from his chest as if it were never there, and behind him appeared the black suit with flowing sleeves and the massive sword on his back, far longer than his body.
"What... the hell?!" muttered Ren as the dust cleared and he watched his twin brother fully transformed into a Shinigami.
It wasn't only Ichigo who changed—the spiritual pressure around him surged to a level Ren couldn't have imagined just a minute before.
Although Ren didn't fully understand spiritual power and pressure, his deep knowledge of anime and novels helped him quickly realize his twin had gained supernatural power from a random girl, just like in those clichéd stories.
But that wasn't Ren's concern now. Once sure Ichigo was fine, he wasted no time and rushed to Karin. Since the orange-haired idiot seemed okay, the top priority was to make sure Karin hadn't been seriously hurt.
