Chapter 20: 15."To Claim The Light"
Location: Royal Capital - Grand Arena
Under the golden light of the midday sun, the Clover Kingdom's Grand Arena rumbled with magic. At the center stood a child of terrifying potential—Grim Aragon, barely four years old, yet already a being that distorted the mana around him just by breathing.
Golden-haired, crimson-eyed, and wearing a simple robe inscribed with runes of containment, he was surrounded on all sides by the mightiest mages in the Clover Kingdom: the Magic Knight Captains.
This was no ordinary demonstration. This was a clash to determine who would become Grim's master.
---
"Let the contest... BEGIN!" Julius Novachrono declared from above, barely containing his excitement.

The Captains Moved – A Full-Scale Battle
William Vangeance extended his staff, invoking a full-grown World Tree that surged into the sky like a monument to mana itself. Its branches glowed and fired energy roots toward his opponents.
Mereoleona Vermillion burst forward in a crimson flash, her Hellfire Incarnate cloak blazing around her. Her fists ignited as she slammed them into the ground, sending a flaming shockwave that split the arena.
Charlotte Roselei summoned her Briar Queen Armor, a refined form of her magic composed of spiraling noble roses that danced elegantly yet lethally. Thorns wrapped around incoming spells and crushed them with precision.
Yami Sukehiro slowly unsheathed his katana. "Dark Cloaked Slash," he muttered, slicing a bolt of dark magic so dense it warped gravity around it. He wasn't using Dimension Slash—but the pressure in the air said enough. This was serious.
Jack the Ripper spun into the fray, his blades sharpening instinctively to cut through any magic they touched.
Kaiser's defensive vortexes swirled violently, intercepting blasts with anti-spell precision.
Rill painted massive monsters that roared to life, swinging toward Mereoleona before being incinerated by a single fiery punch.
Dorothy flickered between dream dimensions, temporarily warping sections of the battlefield.
Nozel summoned silver mercury wings to control the aerial battlefield, raining down compressed silver lances.
The battlefield trembled under the weight of true Magic Knight resolve.
---
Mereoleona's Roar
"HE IS MINE! I FOUND HIM IN HAGE, I FELT HIS MANA BEFORE ANY OF YOU!"
She launched herself at William, her fist clashing with World Tree roots. Flames and bark exploded. A crater formed beneath them.
"You would stifle him with your branches," she snarled. "Let him burn bright!"
Charlotte, interjecting with a whip of roses, shouted, "He needs discipline and refinement! Not reckless combustion!"
Yami cut through both their magic waves, standing firm. "He needs someone who understands the darkness inside. Someone who's been there."
All of them fought, not holding back—because they believed Grim was the future.

Grim Watches
As the battlefield ignited, Grim stood silently, clutching his hands to his chest. He was watching people he admired, people of immense power, fighting for the chance to guide him.
Noelle Silva stood beside him, her small hands curled into fists.
"You okay?" she asked.
Grim nodded.
"They're amazing..."
He looked at her.
"But I think you're more amazing."
Noelle blushed hard. "W-W-What does that even mean?! Are you trying to flirt?!"
Grim laughed. A real laugh. A pure one.
Noelle froze.
"You're smiling... like, really smiling. Not fake."
Grim looked up at the sky.
"Yeah. I guess I am."

Nebra Silva – In the Shadows
Watching from a distance, Nebra felt her heart crack.
She saw Grim laughing with Noelle. She saw his eyes sparkle.
"Why her? Why not me...?"
She clenched her jaw, looking away.
"It's not like I care or anything... idiot."
But her chest screamed.
She was falling for him. Deeply. And it scared her.

In Hage Village – Asta & Yuno's Oath
Asta pounded the earth, sweat pouring from his brow.
"He's getting stronger... we can't fall behind!"
Yuno hovered mid-air, wind spinning around him. His expression was calm but sharp.
"We promised we'd reach the top together. He may be ahead... but we'll catch up."
The two future rivals locked eyes, burning with resolve.
---
Sister Lily – Tears of Silence
In the dim chapel, Sister Lily sat alone. A small handkerchief embroidered by Grim lay on her lap.
She stared at the altar.
"You're out there... with nobles and royals... Are you happy, Grim?"
Tears fell onto the cloth.
"Do you still miss us...? Because we miss you."
The other children tiptoed around her, whispering.
"Sister Lily's been crying again..."
---
Back in the Arena – The Final Standoff
Four captains remained standing: Mereoleona, William, Charlotte, and Yami.
Each one battered. Magic auras still flaring.
William thought raised his staff high. "I see the soul of an elf in him. I will nurture it."
Charlotte stepped forward, elegant but firm. "He will learn to protect others with grace."
Yami cracked his knuckles. "He needs a blade. I'll sharpen him myself."
Mereoleona, blazing brighter than ever, roared, "HE WILL BE FIRE ITSELF! HE IS THE LIGHT THAT WILL BURN THE DARKNESS!"
Grim stood stunned.
They fought for him.
Him.
The lonely boy. The commoner. The reincarnator.
He couldn't stop the tears.
Noelle reached out, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Hey... you okay?"
He looked at her, trembling.
"Why do they want me so badly...?"
Noelle smiled.
"Because you're not just strong, Grim. You're... special."
And then he laughed again.
A small, broken, but beautiful sound.
---
Julius Descends
Hovering above, the Wizard King clapped his hands. "Enough!"
All captains stopped.
Julius landed, smiling softly.
"All of you showed your resolve. But Grim doesn't have to choose today."
He turned to Grim.
"Just know this: you are wanted. You are protected. You are loved."
Grim nodded, wiping tears away, and smiled again.
