Billionaire's Hidden Truth

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Facial Fissures

Linda's POV

After discovering the picture, I was unable to sleep. My head was full of questions. Really, who was Kevin? Why had he changed his name? My restlessness increased as I considered it more. I couldn't continue to act like nothing was wrong.

I made the decision to face Kevin as soon as he woke up the following morning.

Despite the tempest building inside of me, I said, "Kevin, we need to talk," in a firm voice.

He raised an eyebrow as he looked up from his phone. "How about?"

I inhaled deeply while attempting to speak in a composed manner. "I discovered something last night. A picture of yourself... but with a new name.

His eyes briefly flashed with surprise, but he immediately covered it up. "Linda, what are you discussing?"

"Don't act foolish, Kevin!" My annoyance boiled over and I lost my temper. Really, who are you? Why are you deceiving me, too?

With a groan, Kevin combed through his hair. It isn't what you believe. I can't tell you anything about my past just now. However, that does not imply that I am deceiving you.

I retorted, "That sounds like a lie to me." "You want me to simply have faith in you while you maintain all these secrets?"

His face softened as he got up and approached me. "I'm not attempting to harm you, Linda. Certain things are difficult. It's safer for you to be unaware.

I moved away from him and shook my head. "Stop stating that! The truth is what I desire, not protection!

Kevin's jaw tightened, obviously annoyed. "Look, you don't realize how enormous this is. I'm taking this action to keep us both safe.

"What do you protect us from?" I insisted. "From your sibling? From your history? Kevin, you're not making any sense at all!

He simply stared at me with those reserved eyes that gave me the impression that I was only seeing half of him without responding.

I let out a final sigh. "Are you sure you won't tell me?"

He said, "I will, in time." "But you have to trust me right now."

Have faith. It was beginning to sound hollow. If someone wasn't telling the truth to me, how could I trust them?

Kevin kept acting as if nothing was wrong as the days passed. However, I couldn't get rid of the impression that nothing was normal. Not only that, but his brother Nathan was also involved. I felt uneasy about him for some reason.

Although Nathan had always been aloof toward me, I could now feel a darker side to his personality. He had a manner of viewing me as though I were merely a piece in a game he was playing with Kevin.

Although I was unsure of Nathan's precise intentions, I had a bad feeling.

Nathan was quietly working behind the scenes, pulling strings to ensure that both Kevin's and my lives would end. Nathan was talking to someone on the phone when I overheard them.

"Yes," Nathan answered in a silky, low voice, "everything is in place." Daniel is on board. He will take care of Linda's end. It will not be long before she is caught in the trap.

Listening from the hallway, I froze. Daniel? My former partner? How was he related to this?

Nathan went on, "Kevin won't see it coming." It will be too late by the time he realizes. Kevin will be forced to resign, and Linda will be destroyed.

A shiver went down my back. Were Nathan and Daniel collaborating? To ruin Kevin and me?

Would Kevin even believe me when I told him?

A few days later, I got a surprise phone call. It came from a renowned fashion house, which I had long admired. They were giving me an opportunity to create my own collection, which was a great deal.

The woman on the other end of the telephone declared, "This is a huge opportunity." "We think you have the capacity to produce something truly remarkable."

Excitement made my heart race. I had been having a hard time getting back on my feet after losing my last job. I might be able to reestablish my career with this sabbatical.

However, there remained a persistent thought in the back of my mind. This offer seemed too good to be true, especially in light of what I had heard Nathan say. Did he have this in mind?

Nevertheless, I couldn't resist the allure of finally establishing myself in the fashion industry. I couldn't allow my fear stop me. Perhaps this was my opportunity to demonstrate that I could achieve without Kevin or anybody else.

I tried to seem calm as I informed the woman on the phone, "I'll need some time to think about it."

"Obviously," she answered. Don't wait too long, though. This offer won't remain available indefinitely.

I hung up with a mixture of mistrust and eagerness. Was this a scam, or could I trust this deal?

When Kevin returned home later that night, he appeared more anxious than normal. He poured himself a drink, sat down at the table, and stared into space without saying much to me.

"Hard day?" I tried to sound informal as I inquired.

He took a sip and mumbled, "You could say that."

I kept a tight eye on him while I considered telling him about the fashion offer. There was a part of me that was reluctant to break the good news. What if Nathan's plan has something to do with it? What would happen if I were walking directly into a trap?

Kevin started talking before I could respond.

His voice was strained as he said, "Nathan is up to something." "I'm beginning to piece it together, but I don't know what it is yet."

A beat skipped in my chest. Did he know?

Kevin went on, "I heard him on the phone with someone." "He's attempting to discredit me, and I believe he's entangling you in it."

I took a deep breath, recalling Nathan's talk with Daniel. "Kevin... I believe you to be correct.

He gave me a startled expression. "What do you mean?"

I admitted, "I heard Nathan too." He collaborates with my ex-boyfriend Daniel. They have something planned. something that will destroy us.

Kevin's face grew serious. "Why didn't you inform me earlier?"

With a trembling voice, I confessed, "I wasn't sure if you'd believe me."

Kevin got to his feet and paced the room. "This is more serious than I anticipated. Everything might be destroyed if Nathan and Daniel are collaborating. And if you're a part of this... Linda, I won't allow them to harm you.

His remarks caused a knot to form in my throat. Kevin still cared about me despite his secrets and aloof demeanor. Was it sufficient, though?

"Today, I received a call," I muttered. "From a clothing brand." They gave me an opportunity to create my own collection and a contract. However, I'm beginning to believe that it's a component of Nathan's strategy.

Kevin paused his pacing and gave me a serious look. "Linda, you can't accept that arrangement. It's a trap if Nathan is responsible.

"However, what if it is real?" Feeling conflicted, I inquired. "How about if this is my opportunity to succeed?"

"Believe me," Kevin stated firmly. "Nathan never acts without a purpose. It's not real if he's involved.

Despite my want to believe him, the chance was too alluring. This deal felt like a lifeline after all the time I had been fighting.

Kevin softened his voice and continued, "Please, Linda." "As soon as we have confirmation, don't sign anything."

I nodded, although I secretly doubted my ability to decline the offer.

I got the contract from the fashion house the following morning. Staring at the documents in front of me, I sat at my desk. Signing was all I needed to do to launch my career.

But I kept thinking about what Kevin had said. What if Nathan had this in mind? What if everything would fall apart if you signed this contract?

My heart was pounding as my palm lingered over the pen.

Should I take the risk, or walk away?
