Chapter 3: Chapter three
The evening had stretched on longer than Scarlett expected. As she stepped out of the elevator and into the hotel's lobby, the cool night air greeted her like a gentle embrace. She hadn't planned to stay this late, but Elias had a way of drawing her in, like an invisible force she couldn't escape.
She should've left earlier, she thought. She should've walked away before things got too complicated. But something in his presence his unspoken intensity had kept her there, lingering in a world that felt foreign, yet strangely intoxicating.
"Leaving so soon?"
Scarlett turned, her heart skipping at the sound of Elias's voice. He stood by the entrance, his hands casually shoved into his pockets, looking as though he'd been waiting for her all along.
"I didn't realize you were following me," she said, her voice teasing but also filled with an unexpected thrill.
"I'm not," Elias replied, a smirk playing at the corners of his lips. "I'm just not ready to say goodnight."
Scarlett laughed softly, trying to hide the way his words affected her. "You certainly have a way with words."
"I have a way with everything," he said with quiet confidence, his eyes darkening as he took a step toward her.
She was acutely aware of the space between them shrinking, of the magnetism drawing them closer. There was an undeniable tension that simmered beneath their banter, something both electric and dangerous.
"What's stopping you from leaving, Scarlett?" Elias's voice was low now, his tone edging with something more serious, more possessive.
She didn't know what to say. She could feel the pull between them, like a force of nature, but at the same time, she knew she needed to be careful. With him, with this.
"You're playing with fire," she said softly, the words escaping before she could stop them.
Elias stopped in front of her, his gaze never leaving hers. He reached out, brushing a lock of her hair behind her ear, the simple gesture sending shivers down her spine.
"I've always been a risk-taker," he whispered, his voice a soft murmur against the backdrop of the lobby. "And right now, Scarlett, you're the greatest risk I've ever taken."
Her breath hitched at the intensity in his eyes. She could feel the heat radiating off him, the weight of his stare making her heart race. She wanted to step back, to maintain control, but everything inside her screamed to stay to give in.
The air between them thickened, and Scarlett could barely think straight as Elias stepped even closer, his body mere inches from hers. The energy between them was palpable now, charged with something they could both no longer ignore.
"You're dangerous," she managed to say, her voice trembling just slightly.
"So are you." Elias's lips were so close she could feel the warmth of his breath on her skin. "But you're worth it."
Without giving her time to respond, Elias leaned in, capturing her lips in a kiss that was deep, slow, and full of unspoken promise. The world around them disappeared in an instant.
Scarlett melted into him, her hands instinctively resting on his chest as she kissed him back with equal intensity. Every thought she had seemed to vanish, replaced by the overwhelming desire that surged between them. She could feel the heat of his body, the strength of his embrace, and for the first time in a long while, Scarlett didn't want to fight what was happening.
She wanted him wanted this no matter the consequences.
When they finally broke apart, both breathless, Elias's forehead rested against hers. "You can't walk away from this, Scarlett," he murmured.
"I'm not sure I want to," she replied, her voice low and filled with uncertainty, but also undeniable yearning.
Elias smiled, a wicked glint in his eyes. "Good. Because this is only the beginning."
A sudden impulse surged through Scarlett, one she couldn't deny. She wanted to know more about the man standing before her, wanted to understand what it was that drew her to him with such force.
But a lingering voice in the back of her mind reminded her of the stakes the world he lived in, and the dangers that came with it. Was she ready to dive into the unknown, to lose herself in a man who didn't play by the rules?
"Elias," Scarlett began, her voice barely above a whisper, "what is it you want from me?"
His eyes darkened, and for a moment, Scarlett thought he might pull back. Instead, he cupped her face gently, his thumb brushing across her cheek with a tenderness that caught her off guard.
"I don't know yet," he admitted, his voice soft but laden with something she couldn't quite place. "But I'll figure it out."
Scarlett's heart raced. There was no denying it anymore. She was already in too deep, already entangled in the web Elias had spun.
And despite her better judgment, she couldn't bring herself to walk away.
