Chapter 74: Chapter 70 Strength and Authority
Ryo and Mikasa continued their journey toward the reporting area, leaving behind a scene of silence and disbelief. Ryo's quick dismantling of the gendarmerie recruits left no doubt about his abilities, but his actions also carried a message. Strength was a currency here, and Ryo had made a down payment that no one would forget.
Mikasa walked alongside him, her usually stoic demeanor showing traces of curiosity. "Ryo, why did you go so far with them? You've never been like this before."
Ryo smirked but didn't slow his pace. "Mikasa, this isn't the Training Corps anymore. Things are different here. If we can't establish authority from the start, there will be countless incidents like this one. I don't have the time or patience to deal with them repeatedly."
Mikasa thought about his words and nodded silently. She trusted Ryo's judgment, even if his methods seemed harsher than usual.
Behind them, the fallen recruits groaned in pain, barely able to move. Their pride had been shattered as much as their bodies, and none dared utter a word as Ryo and Mikasa walked away.
Unbeknownst to the pair, their confrontation had drawn attention from others.

Hanji and several Survey Corps members had been watching the scene unfold from a distance. As Ryo and Mikasa disappeared into the camp, Hanji's face lit up with a mixture of curiosity and amusement.
"He's got spirit, doesn't he?" Hanji remarked. "Not to mention raw strength. What do you think, Levi?"
Levi, standing beside her, crossed his arms and kept his expression neutral. "Strength alone isn't enough. We'll see how he handles himself in a real fight."
Nearby, members of Levi's squad were also observing. Oluo, ever the loudmouth, shook his head in amazement. "That kid's got guts. Do you think the captain will recruit him into our squad?"
Petra glanced at him and sighed. "I doubt it. He doesn't seem like the type to take orders easily. Levi prefers discipline, not chaos."
"Discipline or not, he's got potential," Oluo shot back. "I'd bet on him in a fight any day."
---
As they approached the reporting station, Mikasa spoke again. "I didn't expect you to be so aggressive, Ryo. It feels different from how you handled things during training."
Ryo stopped briefly and looked at her. "Mikasa, this is the Survey Corps. It's a completely different world from the Training Corps. Out here, survival isn't just about teamwork or following orders—it's about proving your worth every single day. If you don't show strength, people will walk all over you."
Mikasa understood his reasoning but couldn't shake the slight unease she felt. She had known Ryo to be methodical, measured in his actions. This side of him—the one that left no room for second chances—was new.
"Let's go," Ryo said, snapping her out of her thoughts. "We've already wasted enough time."
As they walked into the camp, heads turned and whispers followed. The story of Ryo's fight with the gendarmerie recruits was already spreading like wildfire. For better or worse, his reputation was established, and the path ahead was sure to be anything but quiet.
